US is mostly energy independent, but who's going to tell Chevron and ExxonMobil to give oil away for 'patriot' prices?
Remember when Biden scolded them for making money, but didn't actually do anything?

Another theory I have heard is that the US is trying to drain the resources of other countries first so it can retain the reserves. This may also apply to "rare" minerals to if you put it into the China context.

The expected cut by OPEC+ members is not only related to market conditions. OPEC members realize that If the G7 oil price cap on Russian crude is successful or partially successful, it will be used against them. Derailing this effort before it starts becomes important
US really want to reduce OPEC's control over energy prices.
NSC’s Jake Sullivan and NEC’s Brian Deese on OPEC+ production cuts: “In light of today’s action, the Biden Administration will also consult with Congress on additional tools and authorities to reduce OPEC's control over energy prices.”

To me, I don't think so. They are just companies with shareholders making money.

Biden was saying these companies are profiting off hard working americans, blah blah blah

So what does he want to do? Nationalize the oil companies and declare People's Republic of the United States of America?

"My fellow Americans, mark today as one of the great triumphs of the American Dream... The workers have re-established control of the country over the capitalist class..."

Utopia is energy independent in same sense that i'm transport independent because i own a car though it doesn't run because i've no gas. Energy independence is an interesting concept that has two flow imo. Commercial supply & war time supply. Utopia created the illusion of being energy independent by fracking shell & making up for the cost of it by making other top producers keeping the price at certain level. China has largest shale oil/gas reserve in the world. It doesn't call itself energy independent.
