But as you said yourself Myanmar’s infrastructure is lacking and Myanmar isn’t exactly known for being the most politically stable nation. It’s gonna take a large investment to see it through.

Well, I think now is not the right time. Many of the CMEC projects are so far from completing that you don't need to start a base there yet.

However, there is this constant rumbling

And I would say that if you put a decent sized base in area around Kyaukphyu (doesn't have to be there exactly) & not right next to the Indian base. It will be close enough to Yunnan where Chinese bombers can take off to assist and same with tankers and such. That I don't think Indians can do much other than complain. And I think it would be entirely defendable from US naval attacks.

Can it be defended from US political attacks?

Interesting power china project here of Russia exporting electricity to China. I wonder why this doesn't happen more often given the surplus in Russian natural gas. Sometimes, building more transmission lines is just easier than pipelines. Doesn't mean this will be significant % of energy supply

Also Russia looking for China's help on semiconductors.

The Yakutia Government in the Russian Far East, and China’s Power China have signed a MoU on cooperation in the construction of a new gas power plant with a capacity of 8 GW near Yakutsk and an extra-high voltage DC power line to export electricity to China, according to Dmitry Volvach, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia.

The DC power line is the reason that it hasn't happened more often. Ultra High Voltage DC power line is something really new, since 2010. China so far has about 5 such lines over 2000km long. China need time to build the technical capability and experience of such grid before doing it outside of China. One reason is the equipment, early on key equipment is from ABB or Siemens, I think it is some time in the past 5 years when China produced equivlent equipment with domestic components for the grid.

If Myanmar gets too close to China, the West will engineer some human rights issue and impose sanctions. Why would Myanmar believe that China will support it once that happens?

And if a war happens, why would Myanmar want to be involved? Much safer to wait and work with the victor after

There will be no Chinese base there

If china cannot protect Myanmar then it basically can't protect anyone. Myanmar depends on china.

I'd be curious how deeply they get involved

Their president also visited BYD HQ in Shenzhen

And willing to contribute $1.5 billion to NDB and join BRICS. Why not, build up NDB in Shanghai. This is something they should allow even if BRICS membership takes longer

China has the ability to protect Myanmar, but does Myanmar want to be protected? The point is that Myanmar would rather avoid conflict with the west entirely and the current situation is good enough. That's different for countries that are already anti American.

China's track record for defying western secondary sanctions against third countries is also not very good. If you were the president of Myanmar, would you really trust Chinese companies to sacrifice access to the American market just so that they can continue trading in Myanmar? China has historically always chosen keeping access to America over supporting victims of sanctions
