Just like how Ang Suu-kyi was supposed to favor America and ruin Myanmar's relationship with China right? The US managed to put their own puppet government in Thailand by subverting the electoral process there. So I would not be counting on that railway line in Thailand.
I would not compare Aung San Suu Kyi to Pita Limjaroenrat. One is the daughter of the "Father of the Country", the other is a CIA stooge. Aung San Suu Kyi did what was in the best interest of Myanmar, which was to cooperate with China, you can't say the same for Pita.Just like how Ang Suu-kyi was supposed to favor America and ruin Myanmar's relationship with China right?
lol, Thailand's future depends on China. A more pro-Western gov't won't change that.
well, then you should feel bad then. Because somehow, every time a western leaning candidate wins an election, it's end of the worldI would not compare Ang Suu-kyi to Pita Limjaroenrat. Why would I feel bad, there is a good chance Paetongtarn Shinawatra is going to be the next Thai PM. CIA puppet takes a L.well, then you should feel bad then. Because somehow, every time a western leaning candidate wins an election, it's end of the world
While China may improve neighboring infrastructure to increase overall efficiency, it makes little sense for China to rely on small numbers of overseas bases. These bases will be a bottleneck and unable to defend themselves in war.My piece on bypassing Malacca through Myanmar. They got a lot of work to do, but the economic incentives are quite obvious.

During wartime, it is safer to continue using Malacca. If Americans want to attack there, they must put their ships deep within danger range, in a predictable environment where there's nowhere to run.
An early American offensive on the Malacca straits, which would be far too optimistic, would allow China to grab the dominant starting position.
But as you said yourself Myanmar’s infrastructure is lacking and Myanmar isn’t exactly known for being the most politically stable nation. It’s gonna take a large investment to see it through. So if you look at Myanmar, it's really close to Yunnan. They would also be protecting an oil pipeline. It's about as strategic and defendable of a place you can get outside of scs.
