Does anyone know how happy the Chinese are with their Kilo's vis a vis their Yuans?

I've read several times that they share some tech, but haven't seen any feedback on how well one performs relative to the other... Any clues?

I read that Kilos have been spending a lot of time in dry docks. In fact, comparably very few photos of Kilos have surfaced compared to the Yuan or the Song. Why? No idea, but it could be they are not as reliable as the Chinese would have liked. In any event, China hasn't ordered new Kilos for over 10 years, which to me sounds like Yuan is the preferred choice.

Maybe PLAN more happily publishes photographs of Chinese built subs than non-Chinese built subs.

No doubt the bias in terms of media coverage is there. That said, I have seen a pair of Kilos stuck in a Shanghai yard for about two years. Very unusual this long stay is, even if they were being overhauled.

Cannot help but add some facts to the SSN and SSBN fleet of the Soviet Union during its height

The largest number of nuclear submarines operates at anyone time was in 1978 and USSR had 89 operational submarines carrying a total of 1497 warheads

In terms of total warheads the year in 1989 was the year of absolute Soviet nuclear naval power in which they had deployed 2956 nuclear warheads capable of launch from nuclear submarines, they had 69 SSN/SSBN in 1989 lower than in 1978 but the submarines could carry more individual warheads, the 6 Typhoons alone carried 120 SLBM launchers

Puts things into perspective, Soviet poured resources into submarines costly and very expensive game, they tried to match the USN and compete with the Reagan stratedgy which lead to thier eventful collapse
