actually I was thinking the opposite (no offence) LOL I was going to say by comparing the person on top of the sail you can roughly gauge her size if you have a good eye...she is 'regular' size for a sub if that makes any sense!
Well, the new Borei Class SSBNs are actually pretty large. They displaces 24,000 tons and are significantly larger than the US Ohio class. By comparison, the Ohio class (which I have been on a couple of times) displace 18,500 tons.

A Typhoon is a GIANT mama! Ohios are pretty darn big too but nowhere close to a Typhoon. Oscars don't have tall sails but very wide.
Oh yes...the absolute largest subs built to date.

They displace 34,000 to 48,000 tons depending on which of the six subs they built we are talking about, and upon their load out. 48,000 ton sub!

That's a Delta IV which itself is a good size boomer yet she is dwarfed by the Typhoon in the background!!!

That is NOT a Delta IV. It is a Borei class !!!!

Good means to deter interference and defend the maritime claims in the China sea...

Thanks Jeff! I also was wondering does it has to do with the shape and material of the submarine that makes them more slippy to work on as well?
Like a carrier deck, or a helicopter landing pad on surface vessels, a submarine has very good non-skid/slip surfaces wherever the crew may have to work. For example:

On the Vanguard Class you can see the non-skid surface on the top
of the hull coming forward. The darker, more grainy surface there.

High res image of a Virginia class where you can see the non-skid coating too.

The percentage of lay chinese people who can swim, or just stay afloat is not as high as in western world.

Seems like in NZ and Aussie land everyone can swim.

you should know that not everyone in NZ (let alone Aus) can swim ... far from it

your statement is purely your opinion, without any backup ....

But I'd hazard kiwis and Aussies have among one of the higher water competency rates among most countries of the world, and almost definitely higher compared to china.

I've been in to the cave when it was still under construction back in 200X, i didn't see sub of any sort outside of the cave, but i did see type 052b 168 and 169 leaving the base. i went with a group into the cave and walked for about 500meters and it is just HUGE. i couldnt remember it clearly nor have pictures since all of our phones were confiscated before we entered it, but the tunnel was at least 30meter in width and 20meter in height.

I forgot to put a smiley or something on my last comment to show that it wasn't meant to be taken literally. :p
