Guys, I heard this really wild rumor (apparently this was discussed on CD), but want your opinion.
1. The Type 094 as well see it are actually Type 092G
2. The real Type 094 has no hump and carries 16 SLBMs. It has been seen on a footage but was deleted later.
3. There are four real Type 094s being built.
Any thoughts? Apparently "military insiders" confirmed this information.

How does the silent-running of subs work? Can they be run on "noisy"? If so, there would be an option to have one or two run around making one hell of a noise, distract US vessels from the more modern, silent-running ones, and just "show your flag" with noise around the Philippines while the actual patrols are more far-reaching and complex. Play Western misconceptions against themselves? Hide your true capabilities?
EDIT: Either that, or the fleet really is noisy, and the Chinese are just trying to live with it and get some real experience before they get proper vessels. A noisy sub is better than no sub.

One very strange statement, he said other than the russian made subs all other new chinese subs are noisy!
as if he knows how to differentiate the yuan, yuan1b from the song and ming. Yuan has incorpoarted extensively the sonar reduction tile, and I don't think the kilo has that or to that extend.
He purposedly didn't want to antagonize the russian so he left the kilo alone, and only knocking on the "New" Chinese subs.
smells too much of political purpose than objective assessment.
right now, US is pursuing the containment policy, still relying on the doctrine of overwhelming technical advantage to overwhelm potential opponent. So, leaving the Russian alone and knocking on the technical abilities of Chinese "new" subs fit that mindset.
If such valuable technical data why need to let the whole world know. usually they wouldn't leak out like that.

Oh well Chinese Ming is more modern than most subs in Asia (apart from Japan and Korea), Ming is even more modern than Taiwanese subs, so there is no real urgency for PLAN to replace Mings, it still does the job well.
