By my opinon , no SOSUS , t-agor or high class SSN will help US Navy if chinese "Boomer" catch "KUROSHIO CURRENT" , if you notice , shallow water depth of yellow sea allowed sub to easily sneak to the main stream of kuroshio current , and when she enter into the stream, it is very, very difficult even for modern apparathus to locate the noisy boomer. It is exacly what Soviets did with Gulf stream current on the Atlantic US coast , in the main stream current because of difference between temperature gradients and salinity it is extreme difficul to sonar to work properly.....that I was told.

The military’s latest secret assessment of China’s rapidly modernizing submarines has good news and bad news for the U.S. Navy. On one hand, the roughly 60 submarines in the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) fleet are spending more and more time on combat-ready patrols — signaling China’s increasing naval competence and growing seriousness about influencing the western Pacific Ocean.

On the other hand, the flurry of undersea activity gives American forces more opportunities to tail and examine Chinese subs. And U.S. analysts discovered a silver lining in the gathering strategic storm clouds. Chinese submarines are a hell of a lot noisier than anyone expected. The sound you hear is the Pacific balance of power tipping in Washington’s favor.

As recently as 2007, China’s diesel-powered subs and a handful of nuclear-propelled models managed just a few patrols per year, combined. Two years before that, none of Beijing’s undersea boats went on patrol. For years, the majority of PLAN submarines remained tied up at naval bases, sidelined by mechanical problems and a shortage of adequately trained crews.

Hard to tell from the article, it's seems one minute they're talking about SSN then next moment SSKs as if they are the same thing. But then, it's the wired, an even more reliable defense news source than strategypage.....

Two words... Kitty Hawk.

Since David Axe took the pic from this forum, I wonder if he took the story from discussions in here as well. I mean he doesn't really give any sources. The Republican Presidential nominees said it themselves. The media doesn't seem to think it has to have sources and confirmation to publish their stories these days.

I would create a rubber submarine that makes just enough noise and laugh my tail off while others keep tracking it.

Yup, secret.. As long as you claimed it's secret. You can write whatever BS they want.

If China sub is as noisy as what they claimed. The CV or sub in PLAN doctrine debate will never occur in the first place.
