PLA Navy Type 039B Improved Yuan-class Diesel-electric Submarine
PLA Navy (PLAN) Type 039B, improved Yuan-class diesel-electric submarine with acoustic-dampening anechoic tiles
"Anechoic tiles are rubber or synthetic polymer tiles containing thousands of tiny voids, applied to the outer hulls of military ships and submarines, as well as anechoic chambers. Their function is twofold:
• To absorb the sound waves of active sonar, reducing and distorting the return signal, thereby reducing its effective range.
• To attenuate the sounds emitted from the vessel, typically its engines, to reduce the range at which it can be detected by passive sonar."
Type 039B bow contains guidance sonar and forward torpedo tubes.

There was a rumor that Type 094 submarine uses pump jet propulsion. Anyone shed a light on this?
We know that PLAN is researching magnetohydrodynamic drive. Huitong says the next SSK may or may not use magnetohydrodynamic drive. This would probably be used on Type 096 is prototype is successful.

From my point of view, PLAN manufacturing and deployement of type 041 Qing class newest diesel (probably in future AIP) boat , is simplest Russian view on deployement of their Kilo type submarines.As per many Western literature and forums, Kilo submarines are for littoral use , Russian submarine doctrine especially in Pacific fleet, their means for use is "protective cover of strategic atomic boats in their patrol areas".....By PLAN perspective they probably canot reach Hawai and US west coast , and efficiently provide cover for type 092 and 094 , so they build larger boar, with efficeint range , and time to remain in designated patrol area of SSBNs.
