Let's put it this way, I'm interested in the PRC developing greater capability for their military. I am less interested, and frankly I am opposed to, developing pride pride in the military.

Definitely diagree with your mentality, if PLA wanted to development into a world class armed forces. Pride must definitely taken into consideration.

Pride is what will make a soldier bare their lives for the country. Pride is what make a person excel for better. Pride is what make a person job feel worthwhile.

No amount of incentives will substitute all this. If PLA want to push their miilitary go higher, pride must come in.
As some of things recently mention by development of history of PLAN SSN. Why some tsinghua graduate decide to join armed forces instead of opting higher paid and more comfort work in private sector since they are the top of cream compare to other Chinese university. It is nothing other than pride for working in the armed forces of PLA.

Fair enough.

I suppose pride can be beneficial if moderated. However, I believe it will always be a slightly double edged sword. In any case, I believe we are at an agreement and end this tangental discussion here.

First of all i have seen a higher resolution of this photo and the two Flankers are prototype with yellow skins.

I can appreciate that China is mimicking US carrier ops procedures as that is the best in the world at the moment. But in my view they shouldn't be copying these "cultural ticks" of the USN as this is just embarrassing.

I would have been more impressed with 12 to 16 Flankers on the deck that would look something like a air wing.

I am sure many Chinese will not find that embarrassing. In fact, they are doing a good job for that photo shoot. Keep it up!

The US places high sentimental value on their carriers. But what happens if they lose a CVN one day in a war? Not only will you lose the sailors onboard, but it is a massive blow to national pride, it is almost an existentialist crisis. Fortunately the US has the military muscle to back up a loss.
If China instills a high sentimental value for the liaoning as well, and if it is one day lost in a war, how will China and its people react? It will also be a massive blow to national pride. Will China have the will and the power to respond? If not, then that's a problem.---

seri.

I think for a government determined to push through a substantial peacetime naval expansion program, the public support for the program that pride in particular naval asset generates must heavily outweigh any added inconvenience such pride might create in the unlikely event of the asset being lost during a war.

In case of a war, the ship could always be renamed to avoid its loss becoming too big of a blow to public morale.

For example, the German Kreigsmarine named one of their Panzerschiffs Deutschland to drum up national pride at a time when Germany was at the nadir of its interwar fortunes. But once real war threatened, and loss of a ship named Deutschland might become a blow to German morale, the ship was renamed Lutzow

This is more for their internal consumption than outside so with that context, it's fine in my opinion. Maybe even a recruiting campaign. If the building trend is maintained, they will need more qualified recruits.

I think you guys are over analyzing. PLAN is just doing this to annoy those Americans who claimed China is copying.
