Debka and LiveLeak are reporting this, and I believe Pravda picked it up...but I think they all go back to Debka.

...but I have not seen one single picture to substantiate it...either in Tartus, or leading to Tartus.

The Liaoning would have had to transit either the Suez Canal or the Straits of Gibraltar.

Either would have been HUGE news in itself as she passed into the Med.

Did anyone hear anything about that?

I try and keep track of this stuff religiously, and have not seen one single pic of that or heard about it wither.

Now...perhaps she did...but I will believe it when I see it. not based on a report from Debka who is notoriously false in their claims almost to the point of being another WantChinaTimes..

Those fellas need to stop smoking what ever it is they are smoking to have hallucinations about Chinese aircraft carriers....jeez..

I've been trying to confirm this story via a more reputable website. I did find a article in Pravda about the Chinese joining the fight against ISIS by sending a cruiser to the MED..the photo they posted is of USS Vincennes (CG-49) which is know for shooting down an Iranian airbus back in 1988. The ship was taken out of service in 2005.

The story of CV-16 being in the MED sounds like pure conjecture to me. 100% Bovine poop.

A thought about the story of CV-16 being in the MED....could it be possibly that one of the PLAN LPD's is in the MED and because of a bad translation it's called an CV? Just thinking out loud.

Thank you AirBus Defence, Thank you IHS Jane's satellite imagery analysis. Thank CJDBY from hengdi. Sharing is caring indeed. :D

Amazing, these are the exact pictures I've been hoping to get.

Hopefully SOC will be kind enough to update us in the coming months regarding the ship's progress... I'm sure that once we get a clear picture of a carrier shaped flight deck from satellite all the last doubts of its role will be gone.

It's a new 40kt AOR.

We've been over this. There has been no rumours or suggestions that DL is building the new 40k ton AOR... that job is expected for GSI or HDZH.

I'm not sure why you believe it's an AOR when there are no rumours even marginally suggesting it, and when all the rumours point to it being the first domestic carrier. At the very least such a statement should not be made with such confidence.

She must have entered the Indian Ocean weeks ago without anyone noticing. And I like the invention of a Chinese missile cruiser. :)

YES, but most of all THANKs to SOC (Sean O'Connor).

Forget SOC.... We should be on first name basis with Sean now after the pictures! So.. Thank you Sean for the nice satellite photos. :D

If he give us another update in the next month or so, we should all put him on our imaginary buddy list. :p

Unbelievable: "The carrier put into Tartus minus its aircraft contingent. The warplanes and helicopters should be in place on its decks by mid-November – flying in directly from China via Iran or transported by giant Russian transports from China through Iranian and Iraqi airspace ...". A carrier without its aircraft?

Unbelievable is right... the entire report is BS. Even if Liaoning did have a fully operational airwing onboard, the idea that China would be willing to send its carrier on such a deployment is ridiculous... also ridiculous is the idea that we would not have heard about it travelling all the way to tartus.
