I have used measured that drydock in GE. And i used the paint program on that Janes image, measuring it in pixels using rectangular selector. Measuring the same feature in both images and creating an equivalency, i found that the width of that hull is about 37 meters (liaoning is 35 meters waterline).

If anyone has done this, what is the numbers you got? If this is a militar hull, then this ship must be an aircraft carrier. I think that it is too large to be anything else.

Are these photos new? Found them in an Sina article which also denied the CV-16 in Syria story.

With all others countries we already know it for some time but with China we can' t sure.

The ship's length is not known yet because modules can still be added longitudinally to the bow or aft, but the ship's waterline beam is more or less known from its current stage of construction.

And yes, of course with China we can't be sure what the ship is. As I've stated before, the goal of us should be to try and disprove the possibility that it can be a carrier given the dearth of options open to us.

This report says China will not be sending anything or any soldiers to Syria.

We don't really need an outside report to tell us what we already knew. CV-16 obviously was not at Syria or on the way to Syria. The way you're posting the articles almost makes me think that you believed briefly that China was sending carriers there.

I posted additional background info because news of the carrier in Syria already appeared on this discussion. What you think of me doesn't matters to me.

I put these two pics together for comparison just in case people still confused with what part and how much was built so far. The upper part of the photo is alleged 001A satellite photo from SOC's article, lower part of the picture is the Soviet aircraft carrier Ulyanovsk. If everything goes well in the next few months, we'll see the Hangar deck section added to the 001A just like on the Ulyanovsk.

And some new information from pop3 on what we can look forward to in the next few years other than 001A and 055.

075 Amphibious assault ship(LHD?)
901 Large supply ship( Another guy mention this new ship displacement is 48,000 tons)
679A training ship

在相对时间段内可能会见到的新舰船
第一艘国产航母
055大型驱逐舰
075两栖攻击舰
901大型综合补给舰
679A型航海训练舰

Considering the time they take to build that thing. I would say its a military ship most likely a aircraft carrier. If its just a freight ship or a oil tanker they would have progressed much further by now.
