Probably designed by someone who googled aircraft carrier and took a USN one as his/her model. After all JN didn't yet build one.

An alternate idea is that they're showing what the real thing will look like, after all we expect JN to build the second domestic carrier which will be CATOBAR.

They've included an 052D(172) and Yuanwang ship as well, and kept them relatively accurate if not a little stylistically depicted. For the carrier the island and overall size might be a bit different but the overall configuration is probably accurate.

The latest image appears to show the suspected 'bow' (front) of this new ship is located around the midpoint of length of the dry dock. The 'stern' (rear) of this ship appears to be positioned almost right up against the dry dock's gate.

Why would they position this ship so far back against the gate? Wouldn't that restrict the amount of available working space at the rear of the ship?

Overall, is this 'new ship' too short compared to the Liaoning? Do we have an older photo of this dry dock; taken from around the same angle; and with the Liaoning in it for comparison?

I think that the ship simply has not been built forward enough yet.

My guess is, if this is the carrier (and for me it is still too soon to make that determination from what we see), is that we are seeing center sections of the vessel getting a little beef now...with other sections yet to be added.

Time will tell.
