There were possibly Russian advisors on board the Liaoning. Same with other major PLA-N ships on exercises/training. PLA-N did not have the expertise or experience in the past. However, the Chinese are known to be fast learners.

Why? Just because they did not have the expertise or experience in the past? Plus do you have any evidence or links to the expertise or lack of of the Chinese?

Does the Russian had lots of aircraft carrier battle group experiences? And from all that we have seen, the Chinese aircraft carrier battle group seemed to follow more in the footsteps of the Americans rather than the Russian/ Soviet Union. In that case... shouldn't you be saying that there must have US advisors on board of the Liaoning?

Plus the PLAN had been operating major combatants for years by now... shouldn't they already have the basic understanding on how to work as a team in the water... the only biggie here is... there is an aircraft carrier in the group now.

There is one of two explanations for that photo. Either the reports of a six month refit is wrong or that photo is an old one from the South China Sea last year that has been redated.

I believe this hasn't been posted before. The crew is lining up for shore leave.
Oh...I think it probably has been shown. It is a nice picture...but it is also an older picture. It pre-dates the commissioning in September of 2012. So probably coming close to two years old now.

Upon commissioning, the "16" Pennant number was on the side of the vessel, and the angled deck outline had already been painted all the way to the end of the angled deck. Like in this photo:

In the photo you posted, the "16" is not there yet, and you can see that it is still the older, pre-commissioning style (like the Russians) where the angled deck outline stops somewhere around the end of the trap wires, instead of extending all the way forward.

Still, as I say, it is a nice pic.

Before commissioning in 2012 (when your picture was taken)
