Team China has more pressure to win the golds in the favoured sports which has limited medals because team USA has multiple chances in medal heavy sports like swimming and athletics. They can afford to have many misses and still top the medal table. I don’t think people would be as frustrated with few gold misses if China was strong in swimming and athletics.
China should send more athletes to match the number of the US. If needed the government should invest more money in facilities and financial support for athletes. They can build one or two fewer type 055 destroyers to finance it and nobody would mind or notice.

You can turn your argument around because I can ask why then does team USA do well in the Americas, Europe and East Asia, like the setting doesn't matter to them.
America's highest gold tallies were in London and Rio. They have ancestral links to Europe and geographical proximity to Rio. They did approximately 10 golds worse in Beijing and Tokyo.

Yeah but we need to be more competitive in those sports. For athletics, I feel maybe the dissemination of Africans throughout the world and enhanced support to African nations in training their athletes can take away America's golds. For swimming, I'm seeing now that it's not a genetic issue, which cannot be overcome but rather an issue of China developing into a richer nation with more pool access and eventually, enough of an edge to invest more culturally in sports rather than pure academics. Today, still parents whose kids are doing well in school will not allow them to become athletes but prefer white collar jobs.

While there is no such thing as being fair because every person has his/own genetic advantages and every nation as differences in resource, the line between male and female is still drawn. The argument that the existance of unfair factors should result in no attempts to make anything fair at all will result in the elimination of women in sports altogether and joke games where open cheating is applauded. "The Bughouse Olympics: if it says female on the passport, that's all you need."
She and the Taiwanese boxer was previously disqualified by IBA after beating Russian athletes, with both competing for years before with no issue, the whole XY chromosome debacle does not have solid evidence as the results of the test that disqualified them were never disclosed to the public. Since 2016 IOC have tightened gender regulation and have introduced testosterone testing for athletes who have birth condition that may result in heightened testosterone levels.

It's not like she is invincible, she have had previous defeats against female boxers so what can you attribute to skill and natural advantage?

Also China just won the 4 X 100m medley, solid performance from Pan!

FUCKING AMAZING!!!

PAN CARRIED THE MEN TO VICTORY IN 4X100M MEDLEY!!!

I was so bummed about US 3 straight lucky golds in cycling, golf and 1500m, but Pan fucking made my day

Also, good on Caeleb to congratulate the Chinese team. Rare one with sportsmanship unlike most of the US and AUS swim team

I mean that's the whole purpose of the swimming project. Why else do you think the US only cares about swim doping but no other sport? Because that's the one that actually makes a difference. Losing to Taiwan in Badminton sucks but that's not the real mission. The real one stealing gold from swimming and sadly sue to sabotage only two gold medals are obtained so far. However with multiple medals it shows the reward really is damn good if it pays off. It's basically the semiconductor project of Olympics.

To send more athletes they need to actually qualify. And even if they do, those athletes need to be good worth. India sent over 100. Some tiny island sent how many? Yet one has gold and right now it's not India.
