Province ranking for Olympics placement.

Guangdong leads contributing 8 golds followed by Zhejiang and Shanghai with 6 each.

HK and TW have 2 each.

In general southerners have contribute more.
Under modern definitions of north & south, southerners are like 2/3rds of China so it’s not particularly surprising. I think there’s less than 500 million “northerners” in total.

Although what’s interesting in the above chart is the association between wealth of a province & its contribution. The top provinces are the richest. So I assume having more developed facilities and talent pipelines actually play a huge role. Most of the provinces at the bottom are poor, though Anhui is an exception to that rule.

that Team USA's appeal to the judges re: Jordan Chiles' score came four seconds past the one-minute threshold for such appeals and therefore should not have been entertained. Notably, there was no comment on the merits of the appeal or the revised score.

I have sympathy for both athletes, who through no fault of their own have been put through an emotional rollercoaster.

For those looking to add fuel to this fire, here's an angle that the American media doesn't appear to have picked up on yet: of the three CAS arbitrators who ruled against Team USA in this case, one is associated with Iran and another with China. Ominous music intensifies!

, with USA Gymnastics submitting new video evidence to CAS that is claimed to establish that Team USA's appeal was submitted within the appropriate timeframe.

This is turning into a real shitshow.

These elite level athletes all use PEDs during off season, training, etc... How do you train several hours per day, everyday, 7 days a week without using PEDs. How do you ensure max muscle recovery, or recover from injuries while training at this level without using some kind of PEDs. Phelps said he was spending 8 hours in the pool every day leading up to the olympics.

I look at weight lifters for example. Those that are natural train 1-2 days and then take 1-2 days off. The body needs at least that much time to recover (50% of the gains come from good sleep, rest, nutrition).

Those that are on PEDs can lift everyday, 7 days a week. When your competitions are resting, you are training.
Exactly the continuation of what I exactly just said, attempting to muddle the situation when it's clear that the US is the perpetrator. The justification: How can anyone be that great without PED's? Same "logic" as used by the Australian swim coach. China tested negative 21 times per person? Still positive; as long as there is undeniable evidence that the US is positive, let's just say we're all positive LOL

"On Wednesday, WADA told Reuters that it has learned of three cases between 2011 and 2014 where USADA allowed athletes who had been caught breaking doping rules to continue competing in exchange for information on other violators.

WADA said the higher-profile athlete’s case “was never published, results never disqualified, prize money never returned, and no suspension ever served.”

USADA's only mission is to cover American doping while making mountains out of molehills when China has any incident even when it was fully investigated and found to be no violation. China is put under a microscope at all times; we took 3-4 times more doping tests; we took them in the middle of the night before competition disturbing our sleep; our girl had to fight a man in boxing; and we still tied the US for gold.

I don't like this north vs south in Chinese terms if anything the modern era with its transportation/mobility will see an increase genetic vigour as different-north/south/east/west young people mix/marry have children and refresh the nation's stock (read this theory/assertion many years ago in relation to the effects of industrialization-particularly the railways on Britons intermixing positively due to increase travel )Fast twitch muscles /long distance runners /massive strength gigachads./the next Eienstein/Tesla STEM grads etc might be awaiting to be born.

I'm increasingly convinced that achieving victory over the US at the Olympics is less of a sporting endeavor than an endeavor in national power and international politics. China wins 5/6 weightlifting golds? Cancel weightlifting. Chinese women win 3/6 boxing golds? Cancel boxing. Oh, you spent $50 million and 10 years hiring European champion coaches to train a team that can sweep the fencing golds? That's the last time fencing will be at the Olympics. It will be replaced with Redneck Twig Fighting, the official rules to be announced by the American Redneck Twig Fighting Federation a generous 3 hours before the start of the first match. US needs more medals? Add 250m, 350m, 500m running, 3 man team relay, 5 man team, etc...

And this isn't even America's final form (Frieza reference). America can't take China's gold medals, but it can sure as hell take those of Australia/UK/France, etc... Crony phone call is all that's needed: "This is bigger than you. Nobody cares if you win 18 or 15 or 12 or 9 golds; even your own people don't care. Who are you competing against? This is East vs West; we need you to throw those events to the US so we can beat China. Don't care if you need to make your athlete choke or if you wanna just transfer him to us under US citizenship. If you don't like that, I have a list of sanctions and property seizures for you to chew on and if you're still playing boy scout, don't be too surprised when your athletes and family members turn up dead in accidents. Think about it."

The key to beating America isn't making Asian people run faster than black people. The key to beating America is becoming more powerful so China can assert more influence in the world and the IOC so that it can determine the sports to be contested and prevent US blackmail, ensuring that American doping positives are always punished to the maximum degree. If everyone on the US team who has a positive or a false medical exemption were removed, their Olympic team would look like they came from a small Eurpean country of 80K people LOL. I have a feeling that American sports is just a Wizard of Oz image.

This seems like old news, pentathlon and weightlifting has been reinstated following governance changes, boxing is still up in the air due to conflict with IBA.

However the 5 new sports being added (flag football, lacrosse, cricket, baseball/softball and squash are heavily favoured towards the West. Even if China over perform in current events they'll still be fighting an up hill battle in the medal tally.

Imo not much China can do until they host again or start taking control of some sport organisation bodies

These sports are so important and iconic that I think they should have these competitions sanctioned by the IOC and not the IBA or IWF. Why must the IOC always use another agency to host a competition?

LOL American football (not soccer) is a sport played nowhere except in the US. 3v3 street basketball is watered down real basketball.
Imo not much China can do until they host again
Honestly, I'd feel embarrassed if China added sports like this when we host.
or start taking control of some sport organisation bodies
YEAHHH that one. Political power is the way to win. It's needed just to stop the US from doping. Turn their positives into bans instead of off-the-books conversations. Looking at the WADA numbers, American athletes are doped up to a point where they're barely function as regular people if you take away their dope. Just this one will absolutely crush the US regardless of what sports are up there.

Are the new sports permanent or just demonstration sports like breakdancing?
