I'm increasingly convinced that achieving victory over the US at the Olympics is less of a sporting endeavor than an endeavor in national power and international politics. China wins 5/6 weightlifting golds? Cancel weightlifting. Chinese women win 3/6 boxing golds? Cancel boxing. Oh, you spent $50 million and 10 years hiring European champion coaches to train a team that can sweep the fencing golds? That's the last time fencing will be at the Olympics. It will be replaced with Redneck Twig Fighting, the official rules to be announced by the American Redneck Twig Fighting Federation a generous 3 hours before the start of the first match. US needs more medals? Add 250m, 350m, 500m running, 3 man team relay, 5 man team, etc...
And this isn't even America's final form (Frieza reference). America can't take China's gold medals, but it can sure as hell take those of Australia/UK/France, etc... Crony phone call is all that's needed: "This is bigger than you. Nobody cares if you win 18 or 15 or 12 or 9 golds; even your own people don't care. Who are you competing against? This is East vs West; we need you to throw those events to the US so we can beat China. Don't care if you need to make your athlete choke or if you wanna just transfer him to us under US citizenship. If you don't like that, I have a list of sanctions and property seizures for you to chew on and if you're still playing boy scout, don't be too surprised when your athletes and family members turn up dead in accidents. Think about it."
The key to beating America isn't making Asian people run faster than black people. The key to beating America is becoming more powerful so China can assert more influence in the world and the IOC so that it can determine the sports to be contested and prevent US blackmail, ensuring that American doping positives are always punished to the maximum degree. If everyone on the US team who has a positive or a false medical exemption were removed, their Olympic team would look like they came from a small Eurpean country of 80K people LOL. I have a feeling that American sports is just a Wizard of Oz image.
