The Chinese woman's field hockey team now has a guaranteed minimum silver medal after winning against Belgium who were favored coming into the match. Looking at betting odds, China was expected to be at a distance 5-6th.

After scoring 1-0 from a penalty shoot, China held the score for the entire game until the last 2 minutes. Slipped up and let Belgium get 1 in and caused the shoot-out (overtime). Was real close, 3-2 with China scoring their last one and Belgium failing.

Really nice results so far for the Chinese team and real proud of them.

Holy shit

Hou Zhihui with the clutch to win on the last lift
OK I asked for a clutch win and I got it. I'm sorry I asked. I didn't like it.

Hou did 120 in Thailand a few months back but 117 is about as good as it gets for her at a regular comp. When she missed it on the first attempt, that was very bad because clean and jerks take a lot of strength away and you have a much poorer chance of making it on a following try.

We lost to Thailand at Taekwondo and ended up with silver. Thailand deserved it. Our girl fought like shit. She always got pushed back, never did any offensives unless punching, which is a terrible way to score points. In the last 15 seconds when she knew she was gonna lose, she started getting desperate and attacking. Dominant 15 seconds that earned her 2 points. But not nearly enough to save the match. I hate how Chinese Taekwondo fights. Yesterday in the boxing match, I heard them say that the biggest change they made to their doctrine was to be brave and dare to attack. So we have such an amazing outcome in boxing. Taekwondo team didn't get the message. Still running around like scared losers. I wanna be the new coach; skin the current fucker on there.

Update on gold prospects remaining

High chance
2 in table tennis
3 in diving
1 in synchro swimming
3-4 in weightlifting

Possible golds:
~2 in boxing (women's 50kg, 54kg, 66kg and semifinal in 75kg)

Currently at 25
Estimated final golds (based on these sports only) are 34-37

Not including sports I'm unsure of like athletics, sailing, canoeing, taekwondo and team sports where quite a few more could also come.

US has (possibly) another ~4 in athletics, ~2 in basketball, ~1 in golf, ~2 in volleyball and beach volleyball, ~1 in water polo, ~1 in football and ~1-2 in wrestling for a total of ~38-39

The Dutch are red hot favourite though. Team China will need a miracle to win this match. But stranger things have happen before.

Is it just me or are Chinese female in team sports far more competitive than the male one? Even individual athletes wise I think this Olympics the females have cinched more medal than the men.
