This rumor has been around for a few months now. I wouldn't put much credibility in it for the time being, however. For now, China is still dependent on Russian engines to supply the J-10. A sale to Pakistan (which would never consider buying fighters directly from Russia) is therefore plausible. A sale to Venezuela on the other hand, would pit the J-10 into direct competition with Russian aircraft manufacturers. Venezuela, as you may know, was recently negotiating for the purchase of Su-30 fighters.

Until China has an alternative engine for the J-10, sales to anyone other than a select few (Pakistan being the only one that comes to mind), will remain unlikely.

Thanks I didn't think it was a big deal.

they already have an alternative engine that is ready - WS-10A. It's presence has forced the Russians to offer the latest engine that they have.

Re: J-10 Venezuela

Just a note, I've been noticing on Chinese forum that a lot of people are claiming to see J-10s at Guilin, which is the 5th regiment in 2nd division.

one such post:

Interesting. I thought it may be 5th Regiment that may be upgraded. The 6th Regiment is of course the more famous one with the Su-27s and J-11s. For the 1st Division, it can only be the 3rd Regiment, after 1st and 2nd being taken up by J-8F and J-11. The one on the 3rd Division should either be the 7th or 8th Regiment.

Re: J-10 Venezuela

I wouldn't be surprised. It seems like 44th and 3rd are the ones that suppose to get J-10s first and then 1st and 2nd get the second bunch. So, now that we've seen 44th and 3rd getting them. 1st and 2nd should be the next. But I haven't seen as many people claiming that they've seen J-10 in the 1st division as 2nd. What I've seen with 2nd division is that multiple people from Guilin reporting they've seen J-10, but they are not allowed to take photos, obviously.

well, not much other than what I said about first division (although I actually have a hard time detecting the first digit), I'm quite surprised that the number is painted so early.
