On August 23, Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said in an internal speech, "Smart car solutions cannot be rolled out on a complete front. It is necessary to reduce the scientific research budget, strengthen the business closed loop, and take the modular road of research and development, focusing on a few key components. Make it competitive and the remainder can connect with others.”

no need to dismiss Australian market. BYD is going through growing pains of entering international markets. Chery and Geely had to go through this. Nothing new

Anyway, this is wild. Chengdu Auto Show 2022
So, to be announced from BYD
Denza UXE SUV
BYD SUV 07 (I assume this is Sea Lion)

Also the concept cars are going to be exciting.

BYD Dolphin is really great. If they can only mass produce this thing. Would be like the EV version of Civic/Corolla

Each province needs to finance a gigafactory for BYD, so that byd can ramp up and flood the world with their superior products.
Shanghai needs to step up, instead of helping tesla, they should help nio, byd and other Chinese EV makers.

To correct one thing, I don't think sea lion will get unviled at Chengdu Auto show. I believe Frigate 07 is supposed to get its pre-launch

I've mentioned this several times already. The new high end electric car is for the 800k to 1.5 million RMB segment. It is more luxurious than the Denza brand. The first vehicle will be an off roader like Mercedes Big G that will be priced at over 1 million RMB. Also, there is the tank series from GWM ,but that's a lot cheaper.

This is actually a pretty big deal. Tang DM-p coming out and it's priced at 290 to 330k RMB. It will be a large part of their 300+k RMB strategy. Tang series is currently the most expensive series in the BYD brand. 0 to 100 in 4.3 seconds. 215 km range with just battery and 1200 km range with gas/battery. This model has 25000+ orders already.

Neta to launch Neta V in Thailand and looking to deliver 3000 there this year

Says here that BYD will enter UK market this year. Probably launching Atto 3, Tang and Han for EU market.

Enter India with Atto 3 in Q4. So far, they've sold about 450 units of E6 in 8 months in India. But it's not a large market. So, that is actually not bad. The other surprising part for me is that they will assemble Atto 3 in Chennai factory. They've already got quite a lot of bus orders with their local JV partner, so this is another step forward. For a market like India, I think Dolphin and the new Sea Gull will probably be more appropriate.

BYD is doing very well in Colombia and Uruguay. Over 1000 bus orders in Colombia and 60+% market share in Uruguay. They are far and away the #1 in Colombia plug-in market.

Pictures from the new Denza SUV that will get unveiled. There should be both a 5 and 6 seater SUV unveiled before the end of the year.

look at this a 95 kWh CTB battery pack. That's amazing. Will be the largest one after Tang EV. But I think this a 5 seater and Tang is a 7 seater, so a better comparison would be to the 82 kWh on Seal LR version. 0 to 100 in 3.9 s and 700+ km cruising range. This is going to be pretty fantastic.

Not sure why VW thinks ICE cars are still competitive but they are still unveiling new ones in the China market.

More BYD expansion into India

25 showrooms by mid 2023 and 900 cars can be assembled in Chennai plant a month.

Now, the updated domestic NEV sales from first 3 weeks of August
I'm not sure if BYD will hit 180k this month, but they are definitely selling way more than everyone else.

No idea what's going on with Tesla. Their production is probably affected by the power shortages, but the sales numbers are not good. Maybe they are just exporting everything.
When do you think NEV sales > ICEV sales?

When do you think NEV sales > ICEV sales?
The Chinese auto market was at 26 million vehicles in 2021. Let's say that goes up a little more in the next couple of years, we'd probably eventually get close to 28 to 30 million. Which means, we need to hit about 14 to 15 million in NEVs to exceed 50%. We are probably at 6 to 6.5 million this year with BYD getting to about 1.8 million. So we need to add another 8 million in sales. If I had to guess, BYD needs to be responsible for half of that. So, how long will it take BYD to hit 6 million domestically? By the end of this year, they will be at run rate of about 2.5 million a year. By the end of next year, they might be at run rate of 4.5 million a year. By the end of 2024, they might get to run rate of 6+ million a year. So by 2025, I think they hit 7 to 8 million in sales world wide, which means they will probably exceed 6 million domestically. I think that's when we get to NEV over 50%

btw, I want to address a couple of things. There are a lot of consumers in China who still have range anxiety. If you look at the higher priced market for D9 and Tang, they are selling more PHEV version than BEV version. I will show that below.

Anyways, on to Tang DM-p and the special DM-i version (with 252 pure battery range) that came out today. They hit 35k pre-order in just 5 hours.

D9 has seen 15k firm order now after 24 hours (so people paid 10k deposit). Right now 83% of customers orders PHEV. 35% of customers have ordered the flagship version (28% with DM-i 970 flagship and 7% with EV 600 flagship). Both of these are over 430k RMB. Another 20% ordered the DM-i 970 non-flagship version (400k RMB) and 29% ordered the DM-i 1040 version (370k RMB). So people are really ordering which expensive version of this. Very few people ordered the cheap DM-i 945 version. The MPV market is still concerned about range on BEV, so they are ordering mostly the more fuel efficient DM-i version.

Anyways, pretty excited about this Denza UXE concept car. Will be a 5 seat medium sized SUV and unveiled tomorrow at the Chengdu motor show.

I hope BYD keeps the Chinese character logos on those models even in foreign markets. In fact they should come up with unique logos to go with each of their models, stylized dolphin, etc. Keep the brand logo in one spot on the rear.

Update on Colombia
Just delivered another 229 to Bogota. Now up to 1290 electric buses in Colombia

Here is the reason why they had to develop the new Ocean series. Han and Tang are simply too hard to be adopted for RHD markets. While that is not a huge loss, it is why we will never see Tang in UK, Japan and Australia.

BYD continues to try to promote its production in the Japanese market. They talk about the electric buses, energy storage systems, pure electric forklifts, and other businesses that have already been delivered to Japan.
