Article says that the reduced warranty is BYD's Asia-Pacific regional warranty policy.yeah BYD's importer into Aus is doing this for some inexplicable reason. Is it BYD telling them the previous warranty would result in profits being x-y instead of x? or other reasons? The main reason for not buying a BYD in Australia is there is no dealership network!
Importers mean F all. If I want to buy a car it better have a massive dealership network and trained specialists and a decent enough supply of parts. I'm surprised BYD importer has made any sale at all. Why would any consumer buy a car like this? I'm convinced most people aren't aware there's a monumental difference between a dealership and an importer.
But an [BYD's website] published this week – and a notice sent to customers – has cut that to six years and 150,000km, with exceptions that reduce the coverage on some parts.
The warranty coverage for the infotainment screen and suspension range from three to four years.
Importer EVDirect has responded to criticism about the warranty changes, telling Drive the vehicle warranty was cut was due to a standardised BYD policy for the Asia-Pacific region – and customer demand for additional battery coverage.
"When we launched in February, BYD hadn't set their global warranty policy, or especially for this region, so we had to go it alone. We went with what we had agreed at the time, and that was a 'seven plus seven' [years of vehicle and battery warranty]," EVDirect managing director Luke Todd told Drive
"So when we had a regional positioning from BYD head office of an 'eight plus six' [warranty], and we had a lot of customer feedback saying they actually wanted more warranty on the battery, it just was a natural decision for us to to make the change, to give an extra year on the on the battery, and then standardise the six years in line with the rest of the region.
However, BYD fine print indicates many parts of the vehicle – including the infotainment system, shock absorbers and tyre pressure monitoring system – are not covered by the six-year warranty, instead offering three to four years of coverage depending on the component.

lol, this forum cracks me up sometimes. What is BYD thinking? Now imagine atto 3 doesn't get a five star ncap rating......That will be the beginning of the end for BYD, at least overseas.
Look at BAIC's sales numbers. They're basically a zombie company nowadays.lol, this forum cracks me up sometimes.
I've never looked at a car's warranty before I bought one. In fact, I didn't even know what my Model Y warranty was until this BYD controversy came up. Guess what, 4 years is all they offer outside of the batteries.
I think the 3100 AUD charges for check-ups would be a bigger issue.
So it's confirmed. The cars entering European market will be Han, Tang and Atto 3. I'm surprised they are not bringing Seal here.
Frigate 07 is now unveiled.
It does seem awfully like Tang in terms of its size. Tang seems to be more premium at this point. I guess this is more designed for export market in mind. We will see. Also, it's price is not that competitive.
Seal pre-order has surpassed 80k now.
Lol, this is all you need to know about Toyota and EVs. The new bZs uses BYD battery pack and electric motor. Basically, Toyota is just putting its sticker over the top
NIO is awfully confident here. I'm not so confident at their ability to ramp up production
This is quite interesting, Xiaomi and BAIC forming a partnership and taking over their plant in Qingdao. I'm surprised they are actually getting into manufacturing portion of it. That normally is quite hard.
