Even Dongfeng Mengshi wants to produce EVs:

Electric Viking admits that he got the info from a shareholder of the company, which would raise a little red flag in one's head immediately. The company is testing its battery in electric boats and can only produce 35 GWh by 2030. Like so many wonderful solid-state battery programs in the U.S. that are ignored by Tesla, I will wait and see.

More coverage of Denza Inception online. A lot of people in China find it ugly, but I don't mind it at all. I think the interiors, the accelerations and smart driving is what will set it apart.

And this is slightly surprising. Geely might have the most efficient ICE engine. Possibly even more than Xiaoyun which is used on BYD's PHEV cars.

So now they have the technology. If only they fixed their brands, product lineup and design styling instead of changing from mediocre to mediocre every 6 months

Good information but the writer is horribly misleading about EVs, since it matters where the electricity comes from. If it comes from fossil fuels, especially old coal plants with ~33% efficiency, then 90% efficiency at the motor for EVs is actually 30% overall fuel efficiency, and far worse than the gas engine.

The average coal-fired power plant in the United States operates near 33% efficiency.
43% efficiency hybrids could be cleaner than 90% efficiency EVs depending on grid.

Anyone have figures of how many EVs China would need to reach oil security?

Meaning domestic oil supply can supply 100% of oil usage

They are probably secure now. At worst, maybe in 3 years. The question is whether or not the Chinese society can remaining functional if they stop allowing ICE cars to be used in an emergency. They should have enough NEVs by 2025 for that to not be an issue. More importantly, they could also import industrial oil/nat gas product through rail freight via Central Asian countries.
