If they had 10 or 12 presentable J-15s, they'd probably show them, so my guess is they don't have more than 8 they could show on deck.
The most Raptors I've ever seen in a pic was about a dozen. I guess is that if the USAF had more than a dozen presentable, non-broken down, non-in-the-shop, non-oxygen-system-stangled-the-pilot-to-death-on-the-way-there Raptors, they'd show them all in 1 pic. If they didn't, then a dozen's about all they could muster.

Well, this statement here simply goes against everything we know about how the PLA operates. We know that they value security above everything else and simply don't care about what we the fanboys want. "Showing off" seems to be last thing on their mind.

Didn't we just complain how inconsiderate the PLA was about releasing their info? Didn't we just complain how the PLA hides everything and doesnt want outsiders to know anything about themselves? The term "opacity" was mentioned multiple times.

So now they can't wait to "show off" their J-15's? What's the deal?

When I was at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last year there were 6 Raptors that overflew me to make a landing at Nellis. I guess 6 Raptors is all Nellis can muster. What gives???

If all 12 fighter parking spots on deck are usable at the same time, then given the training role Liaoning bears they'd have used all 12 parking spots if that many J-15s are available. Thus, unless they held back a detachment (half a squadron or even less) on land facility for training purpose (they still don't have carrier-landing capable trainer in service yet, apparently) and some more in maintenance cycle (sensible given how much flight hours those J-15s clocked by now), those 8 would be about the size they could pull together to put to sea.

I am not sure what is the fuzz all about. We have photo of J 15 with serial number 19 as deino posted a while ago on J 15 thread. We seen photo of J15 with serial no 17,16

No from the serial number (as well as their construction numbers even if don not have all, the missing ones at least fit nicely) identified so far we have 20 J-15s build so far of which 1 (#117) was lost:

Block 01 =

No. 100 = c/n 0101
No. 101 = c/n 0102
No. 102 = c/n 0103
No. 103 = c/n 0104
No. 104 = c/n 0105
No. 105 = c/n 0106
No. 106 = c/n 0107
No. 107 = c/n 0108
No. 108 = c/n 0109
No. 109 = c/n 0110

Block 02 =

No. 110 = c/n 0201
No. 111 = c/n 0202
No. 112 = c/n 0203
No. 113 = c/n 0204
No. 114 = c/n 0205
No. 115 = c/n 0206
No. 116 = c/n 0207
No. 117 = c/n 0208 ... lost
No. 118 = c/n 0209
No. 119 = c/n 0210 ... just confirmed on the images below !

Umm, are you forgetting the carrier has an entire hanger deck? Not being parked topside does not necessarily mean not on the ship.

There could also be birds in the air conducting training sorties that will return later. Indeed, landing with a full line of parked planes on deck will almost certainly be a test for pilot qualification.

Seeing such a crowded deck will have a psychological impact on pilots doing it for the first few times (compared to landing an an empty flight deck), so it's a worthwhile and important exercise to train pilots for combat, when the deck will even more crowed with planes and crews.

I believe we simply have not seen pictures of it.

We know that they have more than eight J-15s...we have seen numbers up to 19. One was lost. So there are at least 18 production aircraft out there.

I expect that they have had more than eight aircraft on the carrier at once. We may not have seen pictures of it. They may ave had 3-4 in the hangar. We simply do not know.

But we do know that the Liaoning is capable of it, and we have seen eight.

I am willing to believe that there have been times when there were more than eight on board. I look forward to the day when we see more than eight.

That's all...I'd just like to see it because, as you all know, I have great interest in military matters, particularly naval matters, and naval aviation.

My own belief is that the Chinese have had more than eight on board. I just have not seen it yet.

I realise you're being facetious, but here are 70 F-15s:
