Eastern Europe has been struggling to keep up with their Western European brethren for decades.
Probably because Easter Europe were under the influence of their Easternmost European brethrens for decades lol
I don't think they were actually that far out. Some early footage taken from a nearby beach showed a smoke after the attack and it was not that far away. It also seems that there was quite a bit of lateral distance rather than simply off shore.
From a headland, they could easily be within visual and weapon range for a tank or artillery piece.

Yup Russian armoured column spearheading the separatists drive in south Ukraine.
NATO is doomed as Russia has made effective military use of invisibility.
Western media is totally shit today as they no longer question their source. Even AP with reporters moving with the separatists refused to clarify that they have seen no such Russian columns, or seen such Russian tank columns.
Take a look at the list of captured Kiev tanks and vehicles. The separatists don't have enough trained crews to run all those "trophies" of theirs.
