Niuxin Semiconductor completed financing, and the second phase of national large funds invested in shares​

Niuxin Semiconductor completed the C+ round of financing. The investors include the National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund Phase II, Guangdong Semiconductor and Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, Aerospace Beijing Development, Longding Investment, Wanchuang Huahui, CITIC Construction Capital, Gao Yun Capital et al.

Official news shows that Niuxin Semiconductor (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. ("Niuxin Semiconductor" for short) was established in 2020. It focuses on the development and licensing of interface IP and provides related overall solutions, striving to become the world's leading IP supplier.
Based on independent and controllable core technologies, Niuxin Semiconductor deploys mid-to-high-end interface IP such as SerDes and DDR in mainstream advanced processes. Its products are widely used in consumer electronics, network communications, data storage, artificial intelligence, automotive electronics, medical electronics and other fields.

This is interesting the CUDA monopoly is what keep many from switching to others GPUs, it would be interesting if Huawei develops their own CUDA runtime for their GPUs.​

AMD Quietly Funded A Drop-In CUDA Implementation Built On ROCm: It's Now Open-Source​


While there have been efforts by AMD over the years to make it easier to port codebases targeting NVIDIA's CUDA API to run atop HIP/ROCm, it still requires work on the part of developers. The tooling has improved such as with HIPIFY to help in auto-generating but it isn't any simple, instant, and guaranteed solution -- especially if striving for optimal performance. Over the past two years AMD has quietly been funding an effort though to bring binary compatibility so that many NVIDIA CUDA applications could run atop the AMD ROCm stack at the library level -- a drop-in replacement without the need to adapt source code. In practice for many real-world workloads, it's a solution for end-users to run CUDA-enabled software without any developer intervention. Here is more information on this "skunkworks" project that is now available as open-source along with some of my own testing and performance benchmarks of this CUDA implementation built for Radeon GPUs.

Google developed a CUDA compiler 'gpucc' several years ago. It is now part of the 'clang' compiler.

This is basically an open source alternative to NVIDIA's proprietary nvcc compiler. It can still only compile CUDA code to run on NVIDIA hardware. But it could be used as a base to write a compiler for CUDA to alternative GPU architectures.

it's still a long path for any alternative to Nvidia to challenge its market dominance. There are just so many libraries on Pytroch by this point written to work with Cuda and probably nothing else. Hard to challenge that.

The only freedom we have is with Ascend in China. Since Nvidia is getting pushed aside now, people are forced to move off Cuda. Which means domestic framework like Mindspore and paddlepaddle will increasingly start to work more optimally with Ascend.

Now, if Ascend joining Pytorch as premier member allow a whole bunch of functionalities supported for Ascend, we might have something here.
