Wouldn't this be closer to a 2 year cadence? We got confirmation of SMIC 7nm back in 2022, so 5nm coming out this year would be a 2 year gap.
7nm products released in 2023. So I would say 7nm started in 2023. Unless if you think Huawei sat on chips for a year or half a year.

Good news about domestic photoresist: key technologies and applications of 14-28nm process deep ultraviolet photoresist: cost is reduced by 45% compared with similar foreign products, forcing them to reduce prices. The overall cost of the integrated circuit industry has dropped by 30%, replacing 10% of foreign imports, and the chip yield has increased from 80% to 97%.

Huawei Mate70 series N+3 process flagship chip As for the fingerprint unlocking solution that everyone is concerned about, it was unexpected In addition, the PC chip N+3 process is being tested... more radical

3nm?
No, they are not at 3nm or 5nm yet.

I would appreciate it if people can be a little more realistic here.

SMIC 7nm was first seen on a crypto mining chip in 2022.

Actually, it's a 3 year cadence since SMIC 7nm has been in-production since

Since SMIC CEO Liang Mong Song said 5nm development had finished in 2020, why is it surprising for there to be 5nm in a 3 year cadence? 5nm is clearly slower than routine cadence, proof that sanctions are working as intended, Gina should claim a resounding US victory upon Mate 70 release! /s

19.3 mm2 is pretty useless for actual products. If 7nm was truly ready in 2021 then Mate 60 would be released in 2022.

Huawei Mate 60 is only possible with 5G mobile chip BAW RF filter breakthrough in 2023. Huawei isn't going to release a phone without 5G capability, regardless of the maturity of 7nm. The point is, release date is not the same as production date, and what is known to West is already outdated by the time they learn it.
