@WTAN as you mentioned before maybe CETC may have a 28nm or 22nm DUVL project in conjunction with SMEE?
Cetc 2021 production roadmap

Cetc production of lithography equipmnent in 2021 is 20 sets including 2 machines for 65nm and rest of 18 for 0.13um, 0.35um. 65nm probably for logic, but majority of them are for power semiconductor such as IGBT , bipolar technology for power management.


The only thing I like to see from WTAN is SMEE dry DUV 65nm past track records. Huawei 45nm using that or cetc's ?? I have not found any info on that. SMEE 90nm is rather poor based on customer feedback. It got discarded.

SMEE lack luster in 90nm in the past due its has small revenue and some funding from government , not enough to attarct alot of high calibered talents. In the past , if Huawei acquired this company, and pump in talents and money, smee would be have greater success. Right now, the whole country suddenly has to depend on this rather unestablished company, it's rather desperate in my POV.

Homework and preparation should be done way earlier Not after sanctions hit.

I have a feeling cetc may catch up and surpass smee because it has more resources.

It does not stop at 28nm, there's need to quickly upgrade to 14nm, 10nm, 7nm ..
Need alot of resources.

It's projected smee reach 14nm node in 2023. Can smee keep up?

Do we know if China's gov has poured money in special research domains so that they can leapfrog the current chip generation?

I mean TSMC is already close to approaching the laws of physics to how small they can make their chips so maybe there is chance here for China to invest in different architectures to leapfrog them and go straight to a new generation of chips

China EUV development is happening concurrently.

TSMC lead probably not be surpassed in the foreseeable future.

That's OK, I already had posted how China can out compete with US with older technology.

But the key is their duv lithography equipments at 28nm or even 45nm has to work reliably

Complete line of domestic equipments and materials work reliably at 45nm or 28nm will do.

It has everything to do with P2P. The so called P2P innovation which both Alibaba and Tencent and many tech companies have been involved in demonstrated that these companies never bother to do any risk assessment. In the end, millions of Chinese suffered hundred billions dollars of loss.

Ant is just another P2P in gigantic form if the Chinese government doesn't do anything now. Its financial innovations is no better than Anbang innovative insurance policies or subprime mortgage-backed securities especially as Ant has no skin in the game if the loans sour.

Companies that are busy in making easy money from financial innovation would not bother to increase its R&D. Fintech needs to be regulated. As for UC browser or Baidu, it isn't the first time and won't be the last time they break rules and regulations.
If Beijing hadn't cracked down on Ant Group the way they did last year, we'd be seeing the next 2008 subprime crisis start in China and play out globally in several years.

Honestly, I'm surprised that Ant Group got as far as it did (seriously, they were going to use 'proprietary AI' to screen out bad debtors. Yeah, and mortgage back securities worked out so well... oh wait).

CETC is currently beginning to mass produce its 65nm Resolution or 45nm Node Dry DUVL.
This can produce 45nm Chips with single exposure.
The next step for CETC is to produce a 28nm Node Immersion DUVL which is similar to the latest SMEE model.
I believe they are already working on this 28nm DUVL and we might see something soon.
More competition is good for the Lithograph Industry in China.
CETC is quickly catching up to SMEE and might one day surpass it.
CETC is a much larger company and has more resources and finances to develop new products.
SMEE has more experience in Lithographs but i think it lacks financial resources and talent.
CETC might end up producing a EUVL as well, maybe before SMEE.

Yes from what I am seeing CETC seems much more capable than SMEE.


By the way, do you have any statistics regarding the kinds and different values of semiconductors China imports?

For example, how much it imports for 65nm and up (+), 45-65nm, 28-45nm, 14-28nm, and 14 and down (-).

I think this kind of data can show a better view of China's semiconductor industry. Because we dont know where most of the money is going for chip imports. Is it for advanced or matures nodes?

@WTAN thanks and again sorry for being a nuisance, is there any collaboration between SMEE and CETC? If CETC had develop an ION IMPLANTER surely they may had consult SMEE?
