Chinese Internal Politics

Sigh. Both Li Shangfu and Qin Gang have been stripped off all of their titles in government.

It's a slap in the face moment for those, me included, who were hoping for the best. It's also a slap in the face for Xi and China.

The lack of transparency from the authority played into the enemy's hands. Not that I changed my view on the western media but I have to admit that they scored a point on this incident which gave them the credibility on reporting leaks about Chinese internal politics.

If as it seems Li had his fingers in the till then his removal is well deserved and will serve as a deterrent to others. PLA Generals need to learn that the proper way to do corruption is to tilt procurements in favour of a particular company and then get a well remunerated non-executive directorship with that company on retirement.

On the flip side, this shows the system still works. In the West and most of their vassals, you would never see top officials so thoroughly stripped of their titles even though there's no question most of them are deeply corrupt.

Li Shanfu and other Defense Ministers are more or less similar to John Kirby. Power lies In the central military commission, not them.

Li Shangfu was a member of the CMC though.

I think you need to understand that any investigation of government officials or famous people are always not transparent in China. It is good or bad in many ways. I think we all know why such lack of transparency is bad. However, many of high ranking officials and famous people have been investigated or assisted in investigation in China. It is much more common than many people have known. If all of such investigation is announced, then it is detrimental to their reputation.

For Li Shanfu and Qin Gang, I have suspected they were in trouble when many not anti-China forums in China started to discuss them and didn't deny such rumor. A lack of clarification from the central government after a few weeks is also another confirmation that they were in trouble.

To be honest, the downfall of Li Shanfu and Qin Gang is both negative for Xi and China. However, it is better off both of them got indicted and punished then letting them go without consequence. It at least shows that China is serious about fighting corruption and abuse of powers. And being Xi's appointees won't shield you from punishment for wrong doings.

No, it's not negative for Xi or China, it's China's justice system working. Who cares what Westerners think of it?

It's a slap in the face of China's enemies, who hope we do not stay innovative and efficient, who hope that we rest on our laurels and allow bloat.

Think of how much better procurement is gonna be once we got rid of those that didn't pass the metrics and bring in more competent politicians in charge.

The likes of Shoigu, Gerasimov and the whole IDF high command can only pollute China's military ranks if China lets them. Don't let them.

It is still important to remember that competency and corruption aren't necessarily opposites. You can be corruption free but very incompetent (lots of examples), or corrupt but still very competent (also lots of examples).

I just hope Li Shangfu wasn't removed cause China bend the knee on US sanction request.

If this were the case, I’d have major concerns regarding Chinese sovereignty!
