Not surprised after the back lash against Creation of the Gods 2’s director, who is accused of being a Mongol nationalist. Not sure how true that is but using a half-white Taiwanese American guy (whose father was a white American diplomat) to play the Shang king kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I can get behind more casting of minorities, but the guy seems to also have been involved with Zhu Yu's "Eating People" exhibitions, which back in 2000 created that whole "Chinese eat babies" stereotype; so at least a self-hating liberal type.

BEIJING, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- "Ne Zha 2," the animated feature that has taken China's box office by storm, has officially surpassed the 2021 war epic "The Battle at Lake Changjin" to become the highest-grossing film of all time in China.

By 1:25 p.m. Thursday, the animated blockbuster's earnings had exceeded 5.77 billion yuan (approximately 804.84 million U.S. dollars), a remarkable achievement over just eight days and five hours, according to ticketing platforms Maoyan and Beacon.
With projections now pointing to a final gross of between 9.4 and 9.5 billion yuan, "Ne Zha 2" has firmly cemented its place at the peak of China's cinematic history. This milestone comes on the heels of the series' first installation, "Ne Zha," which grossed 5 billion yuan and topped the country's box office charts in 2019.

What? What did the director say and or do to garner such reputation?

Wuershan has a kink for hapas. Evident in his other movies' casting choices too. Doesn't make him a Mongol nationalist. He grew in one of Beijing's PLA residential compounds and share liberal values of urban Chinese elites of his generation. Again doesn't make him a Mongol nationalist. I'm really tired of this alt-right discourse.
