Shangmei has a new 2D animation movie out and it's getting impressive numbers and review at the box office, on track to beating LXH2 and maybe even highest grossing domestic 2D animation movie.

Game Science's CEO already gave it his two thumbs up.
Will it be shown abroad?

Just saw Nobody/浪浪山小妖怪. Simple idea executed almost to perfection. Nezha 2 has incredible production value, but I kinda prefer Nobody's storytelling. Anyone who liked Black Myth: Wukong should watch this.

Also saw Lightchaser Animation's Lan Ruo Temple last week. A refreshing take on 聊斋.

Going to watch the Lychee Road movie later this week.

This is Chinese cinema's best summer slate ever. A shame the market is in a bit of a slump.

Hopefully this is a sign that the censor boards will allow a wider range of story creativity and topic while it is done in good faith. Kinda tiring when all modern shows sometime seem to be very g-rated comedy/business/romance/occupational drama. Idol star Dilraba stars in police drama that is (loosely?) based on some real criminal cases. I don't understand the obsession with her since i don't think her acting is usually that good but she seem to do okay in this show so far.

The censor board is becoming even more conservative as time pass I think. If Zhang Yimou is a young director now, no way in hell he can be successful. The kind of dramas/movies that the board prefer is either very generic one like romcom/fantasy or the one who has very clear moral lessons or even borderline propaganda. Both are boring.

There's the episodic version of Nobody:
I'm guessing the movie is like a higher production value OVA version.
I'm actually already quite moved it.

I saw the pre-cursor animtion on Bili Bili to this where a low level pig demon (looks to be the main character in Nobody) sees how the powers that be from officers to the Demon Lords treat them. It was simply but endearingly drawn. I hope it does well!

Fun fact from Shangmei:

They managed to get the same VA to voice Sanzang for that animation as the original from 1986 JttW TV show.
