Is that trimaran model a serious project?

It looks basically like an unarmed LCS-2, sized down, and painted in MSA colours...

@Jeff, I'm not sure if the helicopter is a good reference to judge size by, it doesn't seem to be to scale with the rest of the ship. For instance, look at the orange RHIBs in the davits under the helipad. We can also estimate the size of the ship going by the height of the handrails around the ship. Looking at it that way, I think the helicopter is scaled incorrectly.

If the rest of the ship is scaled correctly, this thing might exceed 5000 tons
Then again, I'm not even sure if this is a real project... and who knows if the model maker had fudged the rest of the ship's scale as well.

I think smaller.

The US Independence class looks a lot larger to me and it is just under 3,000 tons.

Look at the helo pad on the model...that's a small helo on it and there's only room for one.

I'd say 1,500-2,000 tons max.

Sorry Jeff I hadn't wrote my question more clearly (I should have said above 'it'), I was asking for the larger model that is on top of the trimaran one.

edit: I found it by googling the ship number apparently it is 3000+ tonnes.

No problem no_name.

I see, reading your original post now, that you did have about the one "above," and now I see what you meant.

At least as much my fault if not more.

Okay, everyone. What is this new build at CSIC in Tianjin? Nestled between two other ships here?

No sonar dome, but this is definitely on the order of a destroyer-sized vessel. A big Coast Guard cutter?

What's that big ship off its port with straight hull and flat-looking deck and two sections? Could it be a LHA?

It is either a crude oil tanker or a bulk cargo carrier. Check it's water line and the deep draft, and the cargo hold.
