After seeing the GE phoot of the module in more detail, im not 100% sure but think that this is just an type 052D ship being built outside the area that all other warships get built in JNCX. Notice the holes in the module for the turret and the VLS. So far, the dimensions of the module match the size of type 052D. Also notice that behind the module, there is just enough space in the berth to build a type 052D sized hull.

Now, why are they building in that area? perhabs because the military area is full right now?

The GE photo does indeed show spaces in the bow module, so that module is probably for 052D.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "that area". They're not assembling the ship modules there, that is just the location in the yard the module is at for the moment. The entire yard can construct civil or military ships.

Also interesting to see one of the yuan wang ships in drydock.

Hello, I was wondering why the MSA was not incorporated into the coast guard when all the other branches were combined in 2013(under the oceanographic institute)? I thought it had been, but then saw a posted picture. Wiki said it was the only one that wasnt incorporated (hardly the most accurate). I looked through the previous post from that time but never saw an explanation (the discussion turned to arming the ships). Any ideas? (Sorry if I missed it).

PanAsian, China moved the drilling rig about 100 meters to the north for technical reasons. A Vietnamese fishing boat was involved in clashes this week and capsized and sank. Its ten crew were rescued. The clashes still make the front page of Vietnamese state newspapers like

but not international newspapers. I guess there's only so much you can report about boats ramming and spraying each other. It's repetitive and ceases to be "news". Vietnam has calmed down since the government indefinitely banned protests a week ago.

That's why Vietnam never had a chance against China in battles of attrition. Once things calm down a bit with Hanoi, I suspect China will go for another slice of Philippines salami.

How is that a tug?

Does anyone have any updates on the China-Vietnam situation surrounding the oil rig? The only news I can find is that the rig is going to be moved to drill in a new location, don't know if the new location is still in contested waters.

It is a tank lading ship before .but now it deliver to cost guard and renamed it a TUG(拖),so it is a TUG not landing ship anymore.
For the oil rig , it is 17 miles from the China control island(中建岛) and more than 100 miles from Vietnan costa.so if Vietnam call it contested water than it is in contested water.
XI SHA is whole control by China again since 1974 .I didn't see any local news about it .the news I get most from West Media which approved by Veitnam. therefore this is a big news for Vietnam and May be You.but nothing for China. It is Very dangerou just like a war will happed anytimes, I am kidding .

TUG 25 is no doubt meant to deliver vehicles to islands in SCS, as the machines necessary to develop a newly created island and build a runway on it as well as roads, houses, &c.
