A look inside the Chinese Beidou system receiver

Sigh... <shaking head now>

Do you actually know that most sub-component in iPhone is, "Made in China"? Seriously.

Secondly... do you know China had their own brand of mobile phone that are in no way inferior to iPhone? and have you heard of Huawei?

Do you know that one of the fastest supercomputer in the world (yes, this is not a typo... in the world) came from China? The list go on and on and on. So what the hell is a small little iPhone?

Shaking head...

I thought most of the sub components were made in other countries. At least that was the news a few years ago.

Do these foreign companies make these components in China now too?

Actually, which components are we talking about? The screen, CPU, etc?

You do not start a production line for 100 units of navigation radar or weather radar for ships, nor 1000 units of processor chips, nor 1000 units of eletronic relays etc if you can get them on the shelf in the commercial market. It is simple economy.

The Chinese Beidou system receiver. Let's see. From the markings of the components, it's using all kinds of foreign components, there's Texas Instrument, Samsung, Micron, Analog Device, TriQuint and others.

Is that a national security issue for China to rely so much on foreign components into their very sensitive military systems?

As US government decide to block anything Chinese like Huawei and ZTE in US government and even commercial branch.

Also, the HQ9 SAM system have been spotted using Japanese Panasonic sensors and actuators.

And Chinese subs have installed Japanese Electronic Navigator.

Well, Chinese systems still have a long way to go before fully self sufficient.

Are you sure this is a real military system? The board layout and chip packages seems to be pretty cheap to me, also keep in mind all mil-spec (and some Industrial Spec) ICs are not exportable to China due to ITAR. (ITAR restrictions to China are extremely strict, it's one step below Iran and way above other ones.) If this is military, then PLA certain don't mind having commercial grade system with commercial level of failure rates and restrictive temperature and storage requirements. Which seems nonsensical to me.

In Either case, none of these stuff is difficult to make in China. (decoding BPSK in 2-10M chips at 1.5GHz, China probably could do this in the early 1980s.) If China can't do it, they won't spec Beidou in this fashion. It's just not economical to do so, due to not having the most efficient or cost effective designs, and military parts care about none of these things.

So I believe this is either a commercial receiver or PLA is issuing commercial receiver to lower level units.

the question is how come the "shelf" mostly foreign supplied. There are enough other products use those components too.

As we all know,While the mobile phone brings great conveniences to people, it also raises new challenge on the security of confidential work. In recent years, the wiretap, cheating in examination, medical negligence and gas station explosion with mobile phone occurred and it has aroused great concern of the society. Maybe it's one of the reasons that promoted the appearance of
