Ignoring the music, this is the best video of the balloon shooting I've found. It seems like the warhead hit the balloon solar panels, then maybe the fragments shattered the actual balloon?

That's what wrong with the US. They can't help... they want to look at it as primitive so they can feel superior when adversaries of the US have learned a lot. A cheap balloon from the other side of the world was able to penetrate US airspace. The reason why the overreaction is because of the comfort that the US homeland being safe from attack until possibly now.
Just like first banning computer chips they thought was enough to make China beg on its knees believing the Chinese are too inferior to them to make chips on their own. Now they're desperately trying to stop China from making computer chips on their own by banning the tools but still believing Chinese are too inferior to make the tools on their own.
Americans taunt that when China is x years behind them in something, it means to them China will always be x years behind and never catch up. Well China has caught up fast and it's because Americans think Chinese are inferior to them so they were lax. I can say this out loud and you think it'll make them think twice? No, it's because they will always take the road that makes them feel superior aka vulnerable to actions they won't see coming.
That's why China needs that hypersonic glide bomber deployed. Don't need to use nukes. It'll serve tremendous psychological value. Regular Americans that think they're so important Chinese are stealing their personal data personally are going to think China is going to drop a bomb on them personally. China can hit infrastructure like power plants and electrical grids and water pumps and they'll experience what they do with other countries for once which will then make them think twice on their knee-jerk reaction to go to war all the time.

That fact that this balloon crossed Alaska tells you everything, if it was carrying something that the US didn't want in their territory they would have shut it down there, in the most monitored airspace since the cold war. But the MSM did a scandal out of the situation.
It's not that, it's just a symptom of the ongoing decline of America. Think of what would happen if an American balloon flew over the USSR or North Korea. The response would be close to what the Americans are doing. The regime would denounce it as an aggressive action, use it to instill fear in the local populace - America is sending dangerous balloons, and this message would be pumped through all state control media outlets (CNN, Fox, MSNBC). Now we live in the era of social media so the effect is amplified, and any sane voice saying it's just a weather balloon carried by stray winds will be drowned out by the regime apparatus.
A stronger power would just shrug it off as America would have done in the past, but today they need to use episodes like this to keep the American people in fear of Chinese, Russians and so on so they don't turn on their real enemy.
With each day that passes, I become more convinced that the US is becoming India. Everything the US has done during its hilarious balloon tantrum is exactly what India would have done. The only difference is that India would have shot down a bunch of its own assets trying to shoot down the balloon, so the US does still maintain a modicum of military competence.

At all levels of the US government, across both political parties and all meaningful interest groups, we are witnessing a concerted, relentless effort to strangle China and prevent her from attaining technological independence, while many of America's most senior military figures now speak openly of war with China, and soon. Meanwhile, manufactured crises such as this one work to psychologically prepare the citizenry for war with China.
China should not seek conflict with the United States, and indeed for both moral and strategic reasons I think Beijing should go a long way to avoid it. Yet there can be no more illusions about what is happening in the United States. The barbarians are at the gates and Beijing must act with that knowledge in mind.
