An educated Japanese and an educated Chinese CAN communicate effectively but only by writing Hanji/kanji to each other as it has happened before /during WW2 in China between officials/military staff of both sides-labourious but far better then nothing.

If the Japanese actually had "Bushido" spirit as they purport to have, they would have been fighting a non-stop war of existential struggle for independence against the Americans since getting nuked twice 1945. The Vietnamese are 100X more human-like in regards to the innate human desire for self-determination vs the Japanese.
But beware this soul-rotted bushido/yamato damashii manifests itself as total and abject cruelty and sadism/sexual perversion to those in their power-that is why I told my nephews to be careful when they visited Japan a few years ago and cautioned them on making themselves vulnerable to food/drink tampering/outright assault by a gang-fortuneately nothing happened.Their old uncle is always over cautious perhaps but I am not going to be a victim especially in these China-hating times.
