Dear Sirs:

RedMercury wrote :"Then the volume of the FL-3000N is not very different (within 10%) of the RAM. Looking at the range, I would guess it is in the same weight class"

Well from the pic of the missile, it seems that it is just too big to be a MANPADs derived system. The missile is about the same size as a Sidewinder.

What would be important would be the installed weight and power, targeting requirements which would determine the class of naval combatants for which it is suitable.

It would be a good complement to the existing series of gun CIWS that the PLAN currently employs.

Well, knowing which company makes the FL-3000N will give us an idea of the quality of the seeker. If I recall, it is the company that makes the QW series?

*IF* those 2m length and 140mm diameter figures are true, it'd make the missile ram missile a bit over 15% more voluminous over fl3000n, while at the same time, fl-3000 would be around 20% more draggy. If ratio of fuel and quality of fuel is similar in both missiles, and they fly at similar speeds and similar trajectories, etc, etcv, it'd be prudent to expect fl3000n to have some 30% or so shorter range than RAM.

Stupid question. Is SY 400 ready for deployment? Meaning everything is tested and everyone is satisfied with results. Or its a future weapon system that is in development?

I tend to think the SY-400 is something that is looking for a customer.

On to other things:

I think the addition of A in the SD-10A means that the SD-10 and the PL-12 is now one version (or block) up, indicating its already along the road to improvements.

Originally its the FL-3000. Then you now have FL-3000A and FL-3000N, indicating that this missile is also evolving.

correct me, FL-3000A use MANPAD.design to be mounted on small gun boat.
