That Russian defense official seems to have little respect for the Chinese military industry. Ten years until China has its own engine? I thought the WS-10A was just around the corner :s

And I don't think the ability to properly copy Russian planes is the biggest achievement of the Chinese industry the last decade. Rather the production of a completely indigenous fighter aircraft would be more worth a mention.

The quote from the Russian is anonymous. It could very well be a Western reporter embellishing what he wants to believe. If you've read other articles in other threads in here in the past, some stories show the Russians are quite alarmed and contradict what that story says. I think it's the author's opinion and not anyone elses since the WS10A is not ten years away.

yeah some western media likes to credit China's achievements to russia.
is there a possibility that sy400's VLS style is purported to be compatible with the VLS system on some of PLAN's new warships?

according to the show report, China will purchased KS-172 ultra LR AAM.
also, C-705 has max. range of 220km,and J-10 was equip with SATCOM.

I'm already hearing people call this the Chinese RAM. You can see a picture of it attached, it basically fits 24 missiles (also has 12, 8 and 4 missile launchers?), the combat station can handle 2 FL-3000N launchers (one in the front and one in the back). It can defend against subsonic and supersonic AShM. It has two guidance modes: passive radio frequency/infrared homing, infrared only. The missiles locks-on-after-launch, it's fire and forget and engages multiple targets.

dimention for FL-3000N-dia. 120mm,lenght 2 meter,min.range-500m,max. range 10km.

Yes, for the 054A. The SY-400 is hot launched, although in the MLRS context its different from the naval concept. That is, the launcher is completely open in the back to allow the fire to shoot out from the back, allowing the missile to launch off on its own power. You can see it in the pictures. On the naval system, you need a way to channel the fire out over the deck, compared to the ground system where it is completely open.

Think there is also picture of it somewhere in comparison the C-602 is cold launched. The way the fire is shooting off the missile booster and the fire coming off from the back end of the canister shows two fire sources are distinctly separate. A can ignites at the end of the canister pushing the missile out of the tube and once out, the missile's first stage motor ignites.

Then the volume of the FL-3000N is not very different (within 10%) of the RAM. Looking at the range, I would guess it is in the same weight class.
