Z-20 (all variants) thread

To most common Joe/Jane that's the only/1st thing that came to their mind.

Hell, if Z-20 mounted 2 gatlings on the side, a refueling probe extended like that of USAF's Pave Hawk, and if PLA extend their new low-vis paint scheme to their rotary assets, 10 bucks say 80%+ of people would call it Pave Hawk in the first 5 seconds.

But for us, we can always tell which is which when observes the following:
  1. front canopy (2 glass, UH-60 series use 3)
  2. engine exhausts (no IR suppression exhaust on Z-20)
  3. paint job (semi-gloss on Z-20, mat on UH-60 series)
  4. insignia (high-vis on Z-20, low-vis on UH-60)
I won't add rotor blades despite it's obvious because we've seen fake photos of Z-20 in the past...

They needed a UH60 size chopper capable to fly well at high altitude and made in China . So same functions of a UH60 with a biggers engines and better lift. You cannot reinvent a general layout for the same size and function... it's just inefficient.

If the Y20 is doing the functions and specs wanted it's just a great addition to China airlift !

Z-20 is more suitable for high altitude flying which is the reason it was imported from the US decades ago to begin with. Its better maneuverability and smaller size further make it the most versatile helicopter for the Chinese armed forces overall.

Z20 with its low profile is air transportable and Z18 is not That is very important design requirement. .Another thing Z20 is smaller and therefore able to land on destroyer deck and Z18 is not . More economical to operate than Z18
Another thing for insertion of SOF Z20 more suitable. In fact the American silent helicopter is based on UH 60
According to this video Z-18 can land on 054A but not 056. Do you have a source for that Z-20 fits air transportation that Z-18 don't? Americans use UH60 for most things and don't have another mass produced medium helicopter so of course they are going to base stuff on that.

I don't know where you get the information but Z18 DEFINITELY CANNOT LAND ON TYPE 52 NEVER MIND TYPE 054A! The guy must be smoking something good. I never seen it and I have been old timer in this forum Never believe everything you see on internet!

I thought the Type 052DL was extended precisely so it could handle the Z-20?
Or is it that the regular pad can handle the Z-20 but it just won't fit inside the hangar bay?

In my defense the guy in the video is not random but maybe he misspoke. Or maybe I misunderstood and he ment be able to land on the pad and not fit in hangar.

No offense, but he is one of those more "fan-boy-like" commendators apearing on CCTV, making absurd claims from time to time lured by nationalist hosts.

I recall when Ford first entered service, a CCTV host tried to lure Yin Zhuo into defaming the carrier as neither able to fight not to sail, but Yin gave the host a slap in face saying that Fort would remain the best carrier in the world even by 2050:eek: In contrast, Cao would normally (or willingly) fall into such traps
