IR imaging incorporate automatic target recognition, allow it "see" thru clutter, but it does not provide full 100% accuracy, older gen. of IR use multi element seeker, case was during kosovo air war, when F-15C try shoot down a serb super galeb fighter/trainer,galeb fly low to evade the interception, the F-15C pilot o fire her AIM-9L,to the pilot amazement the missile hit her target, according to the pilot under this event, even the AIM-9L IR seeker due to ground clutter and thermal signature,it could degrade IR ability to track her target.specially locking to low flying target.he own admission he just got lucky.

Kosovo war to today is how long? Technology had not move forward since then? Secondly... the missile you say... hit target right? ... Please also read up on latest IR technology that China 'happen' to deploy in their TY-90 too... something like- Imaging IR (ImIR)... I don't know... sound good. And also there is no reference to what you have written... any magazine, books or respectable resources for your story? Or just something that you make up?

Oh... and you are bringing up a missile that went into production in 1977... claiming that what this missiles difficulty to hit a target in certain circumstances as equivalent to what a missile that was developed pretty recently, without thinking that the newer missile might be upgraded... and only using old IR technology is simply pretty funny. Although... AIM-9L was consider an all aspect missile, but don't forget it was 1977, and US had since moved on to newer and better sidewinder missiles.

If US had that capability, what make you think China does not have?

Seriously... quit coming up with these type of nonsense. I mean, what is your point? TY-90 is useless and PLA shouldn't load her helicopter with it... or? Make your point and arguement clear. REALLY!

Great set of pictures! Very modern attack fleet

I hope Pakistan in the future get hold of a few regiments of these helos they would be a great replacement to the AH-1 Cobras which have been in service since 1984, that's 30 years next year vast amount of them have clocked up many hours over many decades in war and peace, not to mention the terrain in which the operate

WZ-10 for PA will need to withstand extremely high temperatures and very hostile enviroment of the Rajhistan desert, the likely hood from where any Indian armoured thrust will come, the tanks will be good pickings for a attack helicopter and Gulf War proved that a armoured assault can be stopped by air power alone

The 22 AH-64 Apaches are going to the Indian air force so a unlikely opposition for the Pakistan army, but if Indian Army gets AH-64 then for sure people in PA will be pushing very hard for the WZ-10 attack helo, which by all account is the obvious choice

AH-64 can lift 16 x Hellfire missiles, if a upgraded WZ-10 can do 12 anti tanks and 4 air to air that's a good configuration

Indeed, these choppers would be ideal for COIN ops along the afghan border.

Some more nice ones !!

Does anyone know why and what markings, badges they are carrying !?? Could this be the first LH-unit patch (at least that I know) or something different ??

When I ran the text thru a translator it speaks of an aerobatics team ??? Could it be that the PLA now has its own demo-team similar like the Indian "Peacock" aerobatic team ?

I would love to see that patch in full size. :p

It is said that PLA Army Aviation formed a WZ-10 performance team, Fong-Lei or "Wind Thunder." These two characters could be seen in the tail structure. Fong-Lei team will have a public demonstration during Tian-jin helicopter exhibition.

THANKs

But just a requestion: is it simply "Wind Thunder" or "Wind & Thunder" ??
