On the contrary I don't think their Z-8 and Z-9 are that obsolete. Their equipment can still do the job, but the main weak point would be their transports and the Z-20 is supposed to fill that gap; there has been rumors of a heavy attack helo under development but I don't know its progress.

did I say Z9 is Obsolete? I said Aging. Z8 on the other hand I would say is is Obsolete it's form a generation of helicopter that is almost totally retired. we do however agree on my main point. but perhaps not the method. It seems to me that a combination of a military version of Z15 and soem other heavier chopper would filled the gap.

Troop load is about dead on. Payload is better for the black hawk but that is adjustable with engines and modifications. Also note the Blackhawk is older And I am counting early Black hawk not the later types.

could be preparing for naval version to first test and evaluate these helos in and near marine conditions

water spray leaves behind lots of grit and salt, this eats away on aircraft the issues for naval helicopters is many

theres no question that WZ-10 will form a naval attack, question just is when

could they be readying the helo for when Chinese LHD enters service, well the timing is perfect

The WZ-10 launch first air to air missile. As interesting as this is does anyone here have a update on the status of the WZ-16 turboshaft engines ?

The Chinese military on Monday said the first ingenuously developed military attack helicopter WZ-10 has launched its first air-to-air missile successfully intercepting low-altitude targets.

The WZ-10, meaning "armed helicopter", carried out the launch during a live-fire drill involving army aviation troops of the People's Liberation Army in the eastern waters off south China's Guangdong Province last week, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.

The drill, which was also the largest-scale activity held to study combat methods since the building up of the aviation troops, conducted six operations, covering fire, close fire support, special assaults, air landing at the wing side, fire interception and move by leapfrogging.

The WZ-10 is designed primarily for anti-tank missions and was first seen in public at the 9th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in the southern city of Zhuhai in Guangdong in 2012.
