The winner of the Oceania group have to play the 5th placed country in the Asia Group. Which is funny cause theres some middle eastern countries are in that group.
No change here. Previously, they also had to play with a country from the south american group.
By staying in the Oceania group Australia has only got one chance, by going into the Asia group its got several chances as well as playing against better teams and even if it doesnt do that well, but by managing 5th, it gets to compete against the top Oceania team? (I guess) for the last spot?. Meanwhile I cant see any advantage of any Asian team wanting to put themslves in the Oceania grouping
Did you understand that double dutch?
My take is there are only so many countries that can qualify from the Asian and Oceania group. So, if the new arrangement is such that former member countries of the Oceania now have better chances to qualify, this must be at the expense of countries of the Asian group. One can argue that there's now one more spot for members of the the former Asian group to go through to the final rounds, but the Australian team is among the best teams in the Asian group, and the 5th spot is decided on by only two legs of play. The real benefiter of the deal are countries from the Oceania group who now don't have to contend with Australia.
New Zealand now in the final rounds quite likely has very much to do with their improved chances in this new arrangment.
Meanwhile I cant see any advantage of any Asian team wanting to put themslves in the Oceania grouping
Agree. But that's only because the New Zealand team is not entirely a pushover. Otherwise, Asian countries should be allowed to join the oceania group.
Maybe FIFA is saying Australia is nearer to Asia than the rest of the Oceania and so, qualify to be in the Asian group?
