Palmer Lucky is claiming that Anduril has been testing a flying a new class of cruise missiles over the past couple of years. The family is called Barracuda, and ranges from helicopter launched to external carries on fighter aircraft.

It's neat, but I have a hard time taking Andruil seriously. Aren't they just a contractor who sub-contracts all of their deals? Great marketing that's for sure.

The decentralization of Boeing also led to a lot of the current issues. Having your HQ in one place and the production sites in another certainly did not help.

The MBA's and beancounters running Boeing into the ground didn't want move out to Seattle, probably.

Well, save for the old Vietnam Cobra in the first picture, the rest are AI. Cant even bother to use and pay for real images

I honestly don’t even know. They have a lot of money coming in, so presumably they can afford to hire the talent, but even then it is going to take a long time to bring these weapons to service.

The AirForce Associations Air, Cyber & Space conference starts September 16th and both General Atomics and Anduril are going to be showing off full size displays for their Collaborative Combat Aircraft Increment I (XQ-67A - Gambit and Anduril’s Fury). So we should get a better look at what they are capable of then.

Full scale model of Anduril's Fury Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA)

Full scale model of General Atomics CCA

General Atomics actual Off-Board Sensing Station (OBSS).

Boeing has unveiled a land based MQ-25 which stretches the wings to 92 ft. allowing it to carry 40% more fuel in its wings.

The big question is how far these FURY and CCA can go ??? Kratos for example with 3000nm is interesting for sure.

From aviation weeks article: ''Instead, Scudi says the LBV’s use could be targeted toward CCAs if the designs can include a receiver probe''

So they plan to refuel them inflight from that land based future improved MQ-25. Could the naval MQ-25 would be able to refuel them too?

Yeah, possibly. I think Boeing believes there is a marked for a land based MQ-25 so they are going to explore it. Still not an official program though.

American company Lockheed Martin presented a new cruise missile AGM-158 XR, known as JASSM XR. The new missile has an increased range. This is achieved by an additional fuel tank, which led to an increase in its length while maintaining the existing warhead, control systems and engine. The weight of the missile warhead is about 450 kilograms. The range of the AGM-158 XR missile is estimated at 1,600 kilometers, which is comparable to the range of Tomahawk cruise missiles. Previous generation missiles have a range of 370 and 980 kilometers. Due to the increased size of the missile, not all aircraft modifications will be able to use it. The cost of the AGM-158 XR missile is about $ 1.5 million, the current rate of production of missiles is presumably about 5 pieces per month.

Some interesting comments on F-15EX production:

“There’s a significant learning curve on F-15,” Sears said. “If you walk the F-15 [production] line, it’s kind of like a museum of what aerospace manufacturing is. You start in the back of the line, looks like it did in 1969. You go to the forward part of the line, where we just digitally remastered the forward fuselage, and that’s advanced modern manufacturing techniques.”

First, the company is redesigning certain portions of the airplane that are difficult to build, bringing those elements in line with modern manufacturing techniques. The balance there, however, is ensuring that those design changes are significant enough to improve ease of assembly while not triggering the need for the Air Force to perform additional flight testing, Sears said.

One example is the F-15’s center fuselage, which is broken into five main sections. The company is redesigning one of those segments — the most complex part of the structure because of how the plane’s landing gear is affixed to it, he said.

I think it is kind of interesting to see how the F-15EX is evolving in a way with the redesigning of core components to bring them in line with modern production techniques. Though Boeing is kind of hamstrung by how far they can go as major changes would require the Air Force to have to retest the aircraft.
