Looks like there was a missile defence test earlier today.

A really impressive overview of FTG-12 (the test I mentioned in the original post) provided by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This was an extremely complicated test. It shows how many elements are involved and how many sensors/systems have to work together to target an incoming IRBM and discriminate against decoys.

Lots of great footage in the video linked below:

GE Aerospace Demonstrates Hypersonic Dual-Mode Ramjet with Rotating Detonation Combustion

Rotating Detonation Combustion (RDC) could power super-efficient hypersonic vehicles with longer range that exceed MACH 5, or >4,000 MPH

This seems to be a huge deal, Is there any project that incorporates a full dual-mode ramjet or RDE, that can go hypersonic under development at AECC ?

Yes. Not necessarily AECC though.

1. Tengyun project has run some combined cycle engine tests - reported to be TRCC and RBCC.

2. Rotating detonation engine project from Tsinghua university:

Other organisations have been testing rotating detonation engines:

3. Northwestern Polytechnical University did a test of their Feitian-1 kerosene RBCC engine a few years ago:

4. Chongqing University Industrial Technology Research Institute has flight tested a prototype rotating detonation engine:

5. Big boys - CASC has a scramjet engine, rumoured to involve Boron use but not powered by. if you can read Chinese

6. Wind tunnels testing oblique detonation engines -

7. Ramjet powered waverider HCM tests - Ramjet engine tested by the Chinese

There are way too many Chinese hypersonic engine programs, tests, types, flights etc for me to list. Have about 100 bookmarks on various projects. If you look through the "Chinese Engines" thread there are maybe 1 post every 15 pages or so related to what you're looking for. In the ballistic missile threads and of course the Hypersonic thread. Not realistic reading up on all the hundreds of pages of posts made over the last decade but it gives you a clue just how much is around.

Some presentation slides on CASIC's single-stage-to-orbit spaceplane project Yunlong engine for Shenlong/Tengyun program Single/Two STO:

Way too many more to list and limited post size.

As for GE's engine, well rotating detonation engines have been flown by Chinese organisations for some time already. Even googling it shows some shreds of literature on these.

Dual mode engines have been around for ages. US Boeing Hy-Fly (not sure if correct spelling) has been flying ramjet, scramjet (really a scramjet is a subtype of ramjet) "dual mode" engine. This solution and intake design is so universal, it's been used outside of Boeing's design.

Combined cycles are all the rage. TengYun, and Shenlong programs (Shenlong uses engine called Yunlong) use some combined cycle/s. SSTO and TSTO are not the actual aim since these concepts are rather silly. Therefore the crafts developed by these two umbrella programs are probably testing various types of combined cycle engines. At least in the previous decade. They would have refined which engine types to use by now.

Possibly a 601 Institute project for a hypersonic craft:

This program discussed an oblique detonation engine powered craft as part of some mothership, daughtership separation done. Nothing confidential shown by state media obviously. Can read up on US intel and reports (including rare leaks) that sometimes hint at capabilities and what they've been watching in space and using ground based sensors. Anyway possibly one of the Chinese SSTO or TSTO programs involved with the separation exercise.

31st institute of CASIC successfully conducted a powered flight back in 2021 for Tengyun program where the state media officially declared was first in creating many international firsts in one fell swoop. The banner indicates a combined cycle engine test flight, one of these "firsts". Others could involve control, guidance, and communications related achievements. Perhaps US have done so without Chinese intelligence being aware but from behaviour, Chinese claim 70 when they are at 100 already ;) Proven track record of understating, hiding strength and abilities and delivering more than adversaries and others expect.

Kerosene fueled RDE seems to be popular within Chinese organisations/institutes.

RDE is such a dime a dozen thing in China even small timers do prototypes and ground tests. Big boys fly with the US watching closely.

As for boring dual mode ramjet-scramjet.

Honestly basic flight (straight line flight, narrow body missile/"vehicle") powered hypersonics are far easier than controlled glide bodies. Usually HGVs would have much higher speeds and energy compared to HCMs. Out of powered hypersonic vehicles, only aircraft are interesting. Something like the DF-100 if a dual mode engine, boosted HCM, is far less interesting than even a DF-17 HGV let alone a Tengyun combined cycle powered hypersonic aircraft.

These are only some of the non-black projects China is comfortable enough reporting on and even divulging details like speeds, operation altitudes, photos of actual equipment and componentry even wind tunnel testing photos and models. US only show some boost rockets with fairings shut and the only images of one of their hypersonic engines is the US-UK project for Reaction Engines/Sabre craft's SKYLON.

But reddit and twitter armchair generals were telling me the 'invisible' F-22s will be:
- making bombing raids over Chinese cities with 0% chance of getting shot down
- operating totally uncontested because J-20 can't take off

Shouldn’t they be busy looking for a job instead of spouting BS on Reddit, especially considering the state of today’s job market? Unless, of course, that is their job.

For some it actually is, although they will be headed for redundancy as chat bots are proliferating online for propaganda and repeating usual BS narratives. If only real Americans can start waking up to what's happening in terms of their own indoctrination and brainwashing.

As for the others, they do it for free :p and is the reason why they are stuck doing the devil's work for free. When your only skill is being NAFO useful idiot online, your real value to your country is pretty low.

NAFO trolls and fangirls are hilarious though. I do find some overlap with social and political values which I also hold so they're not all "bad" people. It's just most have been smothered in the types of koolaid you and I were awakened to long ago. Also do love how they actually mostly live up to the stereotypes set by the Russians and their own propagandists. The disintegration of the US is still being denied but it is a trainwreck in slow motion. Slow enough for the NAFO morons to keep missing. The copium they dish each other though is something else. Reddit is a great place for doses of what that world is like. It's hard to believe, but the Russian propagandists actually et some shit right :p
