The US Missile Defense Agency and Boeing have tested the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense missile defense system. A GMD missile successfully intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile in space. During the test, the upgraded GBI interceptor released an exoatmospheric kinetic device while the rocket's second boost stage was operating in a three-stage flight. Now, with the help of the third stage, you can adjust the operation of the interceptor, which makes it possible to hit a target that could not be immediately intercepted. Ground-Based Midcourse Defense is a missile defense system of the United States of America designed to intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles outside the earth's atmosphere. The system was put into operation in 2005. According to the latest data, 44 anti-missile installations are deployed in the United States.

What is most interesting to me is the basing of RSAF F15s on Guam. That might complicate PLA's thinking in a WestPac HIC.

I don't get it. Why use F15EX instead of F35?

Ok so it's faster (Mach 2.2), longer range, and can carry some better missiles...but then I guess their plan is that these clearly non stealthy interceptors are totally going to intercept the stealthy J20 inside of the 1IC...huh??!

I know I'm missing something here because I'm not as well-versed on air stuff as I should be.

But other than being drastically cheaper to buy, cheaper to fly, cheaper overall...what real benefit does it offer over F35?? Especially, this close to China.

You could say the same thing about J16. The stealth and non-stealth aircraft work together in a networked system of systems to leverage the particular advantages of each and mitigate each other's disadvantages.

True, but then what's their strategy here?

What's the combination of systems and support that they intend to use that is apparently going to make the strengths of the F15EX so superior that any weaknesses it has will be so nullified or at least mitigated to the point that it even outshines 5th gen aircraft in the same role?
