Does anyone know more?

I read that article and am a little suspicious about Daniel Wyman "sugggestions" regarding the avionics and technicalities of the F-22 considering he was only a flight surgeon, not an engineer or designer of the plane.

The OPC design proposed by DCNS and VT Halter Marine to the U.S. Coast Guard
VT Halter Marine, Inc. (VT Halter Marine), a subsidiary of VT Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), today announced its partnership agreement with DCNS to submit a proposal to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the design and construction of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC). VT Halter Marine will be the prime contractor and DCNS will be its exclusive subcontractor for the OPC platform design.

USCG stated in its Request for Proposal for the OPC released on September 25, 2012, that it anticipates to acquire as many as 25 OPCs to replace an aging fleet of 28 Medium Endurance Cutters consisting of 14 Reliance class cutters (210ft/64m) built between 1964 and 1969, 13 Famous class cutters (270ft/82m) built between 1983 and 1991, and one Alex Haley class cutter (282ft/86m) built in 1964.

Doesn't look as "dramatic" as the X-bow Ulstein design (

The USS George Washington and the USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier strike groups (CSGs), a flotilla of five ships and more than 10,000 Navy personnel are now operating in the conflict ridden South China Sea area.

The news was announced by the Navy a few days ago, but is now making the rounds in Asian media outlets, and generating as much speculation as it is concern

Why so much hate for these two classes? Give them time, they will prove their worth
IMHO, ultimately the mission modules, particularly the anti-surface one, are going to have to get much better than the "Griffin" missiles, which the artcile does not point out are only a stop gap.

IMHO, the should just goahead and outfit these vessels with an MK VLS lunch modelu forward of at leas eight and maybe 16 cells, and that would be able to solve most of their problems, being able to add Tomohawks, VL ASROCS, VL Harpoons at some point, or ESSM or Standard missiles.

Then by verying the payload there, they will increase their capabilities cross the board, except for the mine missions perhaps.
