All the talk about how much sanction will hurt, etc etc miss the point.

for russia win or lose depends on one thing. If Russia indisputably secured the ability to base nuclear weapons in ukraine, it is a win. If it is clear Russia can’t possibly base nuclear weapons in ukraine in the foreseeable future, then it is a loss.

Once NATO refused to back away from ukraine, and the US having unilaterally withdrawn from intermediate range weapon treaty with russua, for russia this becomes the real issue that it can only can only be decided by force.

All else is temporary. this is the permanent strategic issue

all these other issues are just propaganda camoflauge designed to obscure the fact that putin does have his eye on the ball and his goals are justified from russia’s existential point of view.

Ukraine is already in war with Russia so why not YOLO it..

Who knows maybe the EU will accept it or give it a pathway. You know, if the EU says smth like "if you manage to win, we will accept you" (they can always break their word later lol) there will be tremendous morale boost with people volunteering to take arms.

I am telling you guys, Eastern European countries want like crazy to join EU. That's why Russia's weak economy was always its biggest problem

Inclusion of Ukraine into the European Union right now means immediate war of Russian Federation with whole European Union.
This will also mean war of Russian Federation with NATO because both alliances overlap.
In which case nukes will fly.

Someone here asked me about why I think the Russian nuclear deterrent is, right now, the best in the world.
Well, Russia has the most advanced missile launcher systems, warheads, and launch platforms like submarines.
US is still using Cold War era material. Russia's is like 1/3rd Cold War era and rest is at most 1 decade old.

This conflict reminded me how lucky China is to have its own Internet Ecosystem . Today West is beating Russia in information warfare and are successfully provoking Russians to come on the streets to protest against Putin. Russia had to threaten and ultimately block fb, twitter so as to stop this propaganda onslaught.

China will be immune to this and can perfectly focus on Military ops without worrying about Domestic security concerns owing to Western Propaganda.
While this is true to some degree, that china internet can be protected but unfortunately now there is already some hanjians, pro western wannabes, US worshippers among Chinese. Also many can access using VPN.

While for Russia even though there are current protest against the war, I believe it's still at most a few thousand people. With a population of 136m people that's a small minority.

Would it? What if it was with a specific zero military clause?

Or maybe EU-lite, not full EU membership but Ukraine gets more aid money and Ukrainian citizens can go to western Europe visa free?

I'm 100% aware we are in a nuclear stand off right now. I've been saying this from the start.

Professor Xu Guoqi and his 4 other colleagues are all western educated historians which we have to be very honest and blunt their guiding principles and moral philosophy are in some ways infected with western idealism and worldview. While I can sympathize with the message of "Peace" and "War" isn't an ideal solution to resolve any conflict we must not forgotten that the existence of most modern nation states were forged in bloody war.

As someone already alluded to the earlier comments made by an often quoted/studied strategist Carl Von Clausewitz, stating that "War is simply the continuation of political intercourse with the addition of other means."

While I may disagree with our esteemed Chinese historians view regarding Russia, I can't simply dismiss their comment as naive or "traitorous" as some vocal critics online have done. Part of me thinks that their concern is primarily for China's welfare and it's ambition to achieve the Chinese rejuvenation. How is that going to be achieved if the world is turn into ruin?

Interesting and difficult times ahead for China and the rest of the world for sure. Let's see where this new changing world order will take us.

Silly question but Is Russia against Ukraine joining EU or just against them joining NATO?
