So according to Alex Christoforou who cites the US estimate, Russia is running this operation with less than
50,000 men. That is surprisingly low. People cannot expect this number of soldiers to take over a country the size of Ukraine at a pace
they want. The number of troops implies to me that Russia is expecting lots of local support. And we do have evidence that locals
are feeding intel to the Russian forces. Of course, there are civilians who are not happy with the invasion. I still think they are holding back because if they weren't FOABs would have been dropped.

In the Soviet Union, Russia and Ukraine were legal equals. They had far less freedom in the Russian Empire.
You know who else has 'legal equality' to Russia? The PRs of Donetsk/Luhansk are 'legally equal' to Russia and Ukraine as sovereign independent states.... but guess who has the final decision making power? (Hint: it's not themselves or Ukraine)

Similarly, the Soviet Union has a history of proclaiming new “communist” republics on the border with Russia and then secretly send Red Army to help them establish true communism. Other times, Red Army is sent in to crush anti-Communist revolutions 1956 Hungary, not unlike Russia sending in 'peacekeepers' to restore 'order' in Donetsk/Luhansk independent republics that are nominally legally equal, but reality Russian dominated.

Iran has $10k USD GDP per capita despite total sanctions. Russia can manage that just fine, as it has previously.

You also forget that Putin isn't just the individual Putin, he represents Russia's internal security state. Remember his background.

Russia can also launch climate monitor satellites for specific region. i am sure they know what is happening on earth.
