This war is really super weird. Russia not able to establish air superiority over friggin' Ukraine? The advance genuinely being very phlegmatic? There's been quite a few clips posted over the last couple of days, but usually all we see is trucks, an odd APC here and there. How many tanks have we seen destroyed? 2? 3? Now speculation on conscripts fighting?

Come on, I know Russia is not the US, with pretty much unlimited resources, but we've seen in Georgia and Syria that Russians do know how to fight when they put their backs to it. Maybe I am wrong, but I see 2 options here. Either this genuinely is a disorganized operation planned last minute, which would really make it a strategic blunder of historic proportions, or there's something here we're not seing. Trying to provoke NATO into joining? Dragging US attention from Asia? Something's fishy here.

It's based on videos I saw on r/CombatFootage. There was a video of three Russians recovering in a hospital who claimed they only received a month and a half of training and had no idea they would be sent to fight in Ukraine. All just young boys. There was another video of a captured 21 year old tank crewman.

Of course, these just small circumstantial samples. There's not that much material to go by. Some of the stuff turns out to be fake and gets removed from the board. That reddit is one of the most trustworthy documentaries out there at the moment.
I had friends that had their first tour on 19 and 20 to Afghanistan. It's just how to say it bad timing.

Russia hasn't been slamming the gas, they been quite constrained (with artillery, bombers etc.) so as to minimize civilian losses, although it seems like they are putting in more now (due to ukrainian government refusing talks/negotiations today.).

Honestly this is not a good thing for China, US get EU back in their camp. China gets a shitty Russia... I think China would much rather see a more independent Europe from trade perspective.

Damn this thread is one arduous climb, I'm literally huffing
What, this is really a perfect opportunity for China. China has been wrecked with wars in 2000 years. They have whole department studying how to exploit crisis into opportunity! To give you an example just look back in April 2020 at the height of covid lockdowns. They readied an armada of fuel tankers to buy all oil at negative prices so much that China is choking with maritime traffic with oil ships. In a Chinese strategist mind, the first thing to do in a crisis is how to make money out of this. After the dust settles, all Russian assets and commodities will be priced just above free or maybe negative for oil. In fact I myself is reading to buy those Russian commodities, lol. This is just a classic warring states case. Just enjoy the show, eventually they will run out of supplies and everything will be bargained. So be ready for it.

China may appear neutral on this war on paper, but secretly, in the strategists mind they want this to have maximum damage on both sides or even spill into whole europe. This is just too perfect. China will just mind its own business. In the end, there will be a great demand of Chinese goods after the war, and every commodities trader is waiting for the floodgates of Russian commodities to be at rock bottom prices.

And they are threatening to cut Russia from SWIFT. This is really gift wrapped from heaven. Russia will be forced to sell those commodities in RMB. Accelerating more RMB usage and exclusively to Chinese traders. This is a cashing moment. And whats more every China bashing have been forgotten. They bash now Putin.

I am not a fan of war and destruction, let face it, the sun will still shine tomorrow, we still need resources and raw materials. And Russia has plenty of those.
