The true strategic goal of the military is to keep the future competitions confined to the political, economic and diplomatic spheres. I did not say to forget or neglect the military. The past transgressions occured due to the belief that the cost of a military solution to conflicts with China was of an acceptable cost. I am not advocating pacifism! I am advocating that the military must possess the moral high ground in order maintain the morale and commitment of the soldiers should a military conflict come to pass. Soldiers must believe in the cause that they are to die for. The government MUST give a genuine attempt at diplomacy and peace before a military conflict. Both the Second Sino-Japanese war and Korea war were preceeded by major and genuine attempts at diplomacy and compromise.
Taiwan reunification isn't subject for negotiations with any WESTERN COUNTRIES PERIOD. IT'S an internal issues between China and Taiwan that's it.

They still use conscripts. Conscription happens every year still. I have a Russian employee who has to go back due to a grandfather being on his deathbed. He is still in his 20s and has been checking if he will be called back up if he returns. We are both concerned.
I know conscription is still in play in Russia. I am just saying that conscripts will most likely do "light" work, like military policing and logistics, maybe just the super rear ones. The "heavier" work, like being infantry or tankers, will most likely be done by volunteers. If the Russians still utilize conscripts for "heavier" work, that is extremely disappointing.

A lot of captured Russian soldiers are turning out to be conscripts between 18-20 years old. Some received only 1.5 months of training!
