Significant progress in the north and the south, but little progress in the north-east and east:

For the East, I don't think the Russian strategy was to fight head on. If the Ukrainian troops move to defend Kiev, they will be destroyed from the air. If they don't move, they will be bottled up at the East. When the operation at the South completes, they can move to encircle these troops and cut off their escape. After that, they can take their time destroying them.

But that does not change the substance of the issue or the discussion. If I say -imagine Mexico enters into a military alliance with China. And you answer: -don't say crazy things

In short, it is unfortunately evident that almost no one is capable of putting themselves in the other's place

Honestly this is not a good thing for China, US get EU back in their camp. China gets a shitty Russia... I think China would much rather see a more independent Europe from trade perspective.

Damn this thread is one arduous climb, I'm literally huffing
I don't agree Europe has always toeing to hegemon line so expecting Europe to side with China is wishful thinking. They still going to trade with China no matter what as Europe market is too small for the like of Benz and VW See they keep investing in China As well where Europe is going to get their cheap consumer good? Whereas. Russia is next door to China with well developed infrastructure. And power house in natural resources and food exactly the same import that China need in case the sea lanes get disrupted. Case in point in WWII Russia provide the bulk of war material allowing China to resists the Japanese invasion. No this is god send to China for Russia that become strategic partner of China

Worst case scenario would be Europe rearming, which allows the US to focus on Indo-Pacific.

Yes, Europe was never going to be neutral since its governments do not have self determination. Even a country like Australia which heavily depend on China for its economy has given China the fingers. Economics is secondary to national security and the wish of the U.S.

No one is going to invade China. There is no country on Earth with the logistical capability to sustain a continental scale land war in China. As long as China is not the aggressor, then there is no moral basis for an invasion.

The US has not installed missiles in Taiwan so the last point is moot. Could this happen in the future? Yes, but so could peaceful reunification or the status quo. One can spend a lifetime arguing about hypothetical threats and contingencies, but until it happens we should not always assume the worst case scenario.
You mean the 100 years of humiliation didn't happen. You mean the Japan full scale invasion of China didn't happen. You mean the Korean War didn't happen.

Last time China listened to the world pacifists, Japan invaded China and took land from China piece by piece and the world did nothing. China can maintain peace now because Mao has the gut to go into war with the UN and the US and push them back all the way to 38 parallel line. China can have peace and independent because its soldiers have spill blood for it not because of moral or world peace craps that the so called international ruled base order selling everyday.

@enroger Bro I digress in fact China is the clear winner by supporting Russia, they complement each other and by 2025 IF China had achieved tech independence in Semiconductors and Aircraft Engine, they may not need EU and Russia had lot of tech talents to offer.

China is the clear winner here, don't even have to think too deeply about this... Russia further comes into China's fold, while old and bankrupt Europe still has to buy Chinese products - maybe they'll buy more blankets because many of them can only afford heating for only a few hours a day now .... And of course the big one - Russia leaves SWIFT, a massive sledgehammer blow to the petrodollar.

I agree that China is gonna achieve tech independence sooner or later, but the sheer market size of EU alone is important. The China US fight is going to be primarily tech and trade, EU is one big piece...

With NordStream 2 going ahead, things were going in the right direction, then this happens.... I kind of suspect if there is something forcing Putin's hand, because it looks monumentally stupid to me.

I really wish Russia can develop economically and technologically so they can be a more worthwhile ally, we'll have to see.
