That's what I want to know, what was his motives for increasing tensions between Russia, and which lead to the current catastrophe we're seeing. There was clearly a better option than stubbornly pursuing a NATO membership, or antagonizing Russia, we could chalk it up to the far-right elements within his country threatening or pressuring him, or being paid off by foreign forces. But why didn't he just resign from there? If he truly care for his country, and don't want to get involved in what we see now, why didn't he run against the current of anti-Russian nationalism or just resign from there and take up activism after leaving for safer haven.Agreed, in the end, this discussion on POW is just going to invite a very big debate that isn’t going to contribute to anyones sanity
instead I am more interested in the development of what is going on in Mariupol
One must wonder as to whether Zelenski realises if actions like this isn’t going to stop Putin but only harden his resolve because if their is one thing I can see, is that a comedian can never match up to someone who has served the KGB and have years of experience under his belt. One must wonder if zelenski even with the aid of the collective west could even break even against a man many times his senior because with all these moves made in desperation, he must sense that what he is doing is almost pitiful of not outright sad that me must be reduced to begging for aid like this. What is more important, the people or making ‘Brandon’ happy?
Ukraine had a lot of potential, their geography is very favorable as they can act as a bridge for trade between Asia and Europe, they have plenty of resources and industries that can find a lot of customers for, a lot of monuments and historical site inherited from the USSR period where they can attract a lot of tourist to come and visit their place. There was a better option they could have take, I don't know why they squandered it over petty nationalism and paranoia over Russia. Its really a pity, now they are going to turn into another Syria, a battlefield for one side to fund their proxy armies and increase the profit of their military industry, and the other have to fight who they see as their own brothers, until there's nothing left to protect, or anything to value any further.
Learning from this, I hope for the other side of the strait to not follow the same path, I think the government in China would have preferred the status quo. Recently, my parents told me that China used to propagandize that they have a schedule to take Taiwan at 2000, but it never happened. So I do think its all sabre rattling at the moment, but the choice of words used reflect what option they would take if there was truly no other way, and I wish that Taiwan and China be "reunified" technically instead, where the status quo can be cemented forever with some changes to how both will conduct diplomatically on the global stage.
